OHSA board okays competitive balance proposal

OHSAA Board of Directors Unanimously Approves Competitive Balance Proposal
Similar Plan from 2013 Will be Voted Upon By Membership in May

The Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors has unanimously approved a Competitive Balance proposal that makes modifications on how schools are placed in tournaments in team sports. The plan, recommended to the Board from the 27-member OHSAA Competitive Balance Committee, is similar to the proposal that member schools voted upon last spring.

Dumbaugh and Sautter named HM on Northwest Conference team

Ada's Austin Dumbaugh, a senior, and Brayden Sautter, sophomore, were named honorable mention to this year's all-Northwest Conference basketball boys' team. Ada finished the season 5-16 overall and 0-8 in the NWC.

Damian Helm, Crestview, was named the NWC player of the year.

Tory Wyss named to first team all-NWC basketball

Allen East senior Kaycee Rowe was a near unanimous selection choice as 2013-14 NWC Player of The Year in voting by Northwest Conference girls basketball coaches.  Rowe received 119 of a possible 120 first place points to earn POY honors over Crestview junior, Lyndsey Motycka (109 points) and Ada junior, Tory Wyss (106 points).

Rowe averaged 18.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.6 steals per game in leading the Mustangs to a 6-2 conference record and second place in the NWC.

Rowe, Motycka and Wyss were joined on the NWC First Team by Bluffton senior Sarah Schriner and Columbus Grove junior Sydney McCluer.

Zac Dysert's Ada homecoming party delayed

Zac Dysert's Ada post-Super Bowl homecoming party will be delayed.

"While talking with Zac Dysert's parents on Wednesday after they had returned home late on Tuesday evening from the Super Bowl, a decision has been made to postpone the “Welcome Home Denver Bronco Quarterback Zac Event” planned for Sunday, Feb. 16," Donald Traxler told The Icon.

Traxler added: "Zac's scheduled departure time from Denver and arrival time via vehicle from an area airport potentially could be delayed by weather and we are not willing to take the chance that he would not be able to make the scheduled time of the event." 

Heavy snow forces postponement of ONU men's and women's basketball games with Otterbein

Heavy snow overnight and blowing and drifting snow on Wednesday has forced the postponement of the Ohio Northern men's and women's basketball games with Otterbein on Wednesday.

They will be played on Thursday, with the ONU women traveling to Otterbein for a 7:30 pm game and the ONU men hosting Otterbein in a 7:30 pm game at the ONU Sports Center.

Check back to ONUSports.com later for further updates should the weather conditions remain hazardous on Thursday.

Feb 16 - Welcome Home Denver QB Zac Dysert event at Ada HS

Ada's Favorite Son, Zac Dysert, will return to Ada on Sunday, Feb. 16. The event, "Welcome Home Denver Bronco's Quarterback, Zac Dysert," will be open to the public and held from 4 to 6 p.m., in the Ada High School gymnasium, according to Donald Traxler, who is planning the event.

Several parts of the program are still to be confirmed, Traxler told The Icon. "This is something that the Ada community can feel very proud to be part of," he said.

It is hoped that several of Dysert's former coaches and teammates will be on hand for the event. Watch The Icon for more details.
