Volleyball team beats LCC; late goal dooms boys' soccer team; Ramey fires 124 in golf sectional

ADA - The host Ada volleyball team avenged last fall's sectional loss by sweeping former league foe Lima Central Catholic Thursday evening.

The 25-19, 25-15, 25-a19 win improved the Lady Bulldog record to 13-6. It was their 10th win in 11 matches as Ada stayed unbeaten (6-0) at home.

Junior standout Melina Woods led Ada with 31 kills, 12 digs and six blocks.

"Kyli Lause came in and did an outstanding job," said Ada head coach Melissa Gossard. "She picked up some nice tips, had a couple nice sets and had some big blocks.

RAWSON - The visiting Ada girls soccer team lost a defensive battle at Cory-Rawson Wednesday evening, 1-0.

The Lady Bulldogs fall to 3-8-1 with the defeat.

After a scoreless first half, C-R's Hayley Waltz netted the winning goal in the second half.

The Hornets out-shot Ada, 8-6. Lady Bulldog keeper Rielyn Castle made seven saves in goal.

The Bulldog girls visit NWC foe Lincolnview Monday, October 3.

HARROD - The visiting Ada volleyball team rallied late twice behind a record night from junior standout Melina Woods to sweep local rival Allen East Tuesday night in a Northwest Conference match.

The 26-24, 26-24, 25-20 victory improved the Lady Bulldog record to 12-6 overall and 5-0 in the NWC, tops in the league. Meanwhile, AE fell to 6-7 and 1-3 in the NWC.

Senior Scott Rapps (Bay Village Bay) was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week presented by Scoutware for his efforts in Ohio Northern's 16-10 victory over Otterbein.

Rapps turned in a dominating performance from his defensive tackle position.

He had a team-high nine sacks, had 5.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, forced a fumble and recovered two fumbles in the game.

His first fumble recovery was in the end zone for ONU's only touchdown of the game in the second quarter and his second was part of a sack and strip that snuffed out Otterbein's final drive with 1:33 left in the game.

Ada recognized its girls' tennis seniors at their last home match Tuesday vs. Marion Harding.
