Ada HS sophomore, Melina Woods, recently participated in the USA Volleyball High Performance National Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa.  

Woods played for Girls’ National Select Team OVR (Ohio Valley Region consisting of Ohio, West Virginia, and part of Pennsylvania), which placed sixth of 24 teams.

Out of approximately 300 individuals trying out, Woods was one of 10 chosen.

During the tournament, Team OVR defeated teams from Iowa, New York, Texas/New Mexico, and California. 

Woods is the daughter of Dexter and Melanie Woods.

Saturday is a day to watch some top notch pole valuting in Ada.

Stephan R. Johnson, Ohio Northern University assistant track and field coach, pole vault, has created a "Vault on the Tundra," event. 

He says that is is going to be a great day for some fun, top notch pole vaulting here on ONU's campus.

• 12:30 p.m.  High school boys
• 3 p.m.         Collegiate/open women
• 5:30 p.m.    Collegiate/open men

Ohio Northern was selected to finish third in the media poll and fourth in the coaches poll at the 2015 Ohio Athletic Conference Football Media Day on Tuesday afternoon at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

ONU received 195 points in the media poll to finish third and 58 points in the coaches poll to finish fourth.

Mount Union was tabbed as the preseason favorite by both the media and coaches, collecting 25 first place media votes and 9 first place votes from the coaches.

The Northwest Ohio Lunachix 16U fastpitch travel softball team is holding try-outs for the 2016 season on Sunday, Aug 16 (rain date: Sunday, Aug 23) from 1-3 p.m. at the Bluffton village park.

Ohio Northern University has partnered with Global Football, the Air National Guard, the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade and the Serbian Ministry of Youth and Sport to help with the growth of American football in Serbia.

Six schools from Ohio and Iowa sent equipment to Ohio Northern, which was then combined with ONU's donations and transported to the Mansfield Lahm Air National Guard base on Tuesday.

It will be shipped on a KC-135 cargo plane on Saturday and will land in Belgrade, Serbia, on Sunday.
