The official start of fall sports practices is Saturday for member schools of the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Aug. 1 is the annual start date for all OHSAA sanctioned fall sports, which include girls tennis, girls and boys golf, girls and boys cross country, field hockey, boys and girls soccer, volleyball and football.

Football Notes and Playoff Updates
Of the OHSAA’s 822 member schools, 717 sponsor football teams. Schools are reminded of the five-day acclimatization period prior to any contact drills. Only helmets are permitted on the first and second days of practice.

The University of Findlay announced today that it will join the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) effective July 1, 2017. Findlay has been a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Association (GLIAC).

“We closely weighed the opportunities and challenges regarding the transition to G-MAC,” explained Katherine Fell, Ph.D., University of Findlay president. “Ultimately, this move will help us enhance our collective student experience, and align our institution with other institutions who have similar missions, enrollments and athletic offerings.”

Ohio Northern University will host its inaugural Vault on The Tundra on Saturday, Aug. 8, according to Steve Johnson, Ohio Northern University assistant coach track & field.

"This is a pole vault competition for high school and collegiate/open vaulters from all over the midwest," he said.

The Ada girls’ Volleyball program held a camp for girls in grades fourth through sixth from June 8-11. 

The camp was conducted by elementary coaches Lori Poling and Jen Sumner. The girls learned the basics of passing, setting, hitting and serving as well as basic rotation and positioning on the volleyball court.

Several Ada High School athletes were named  Northwest Conference Scholar Athletes for spring sports.

The criteria for this award are as follows:

1.  Must be a letter winner in the sport.
2.  Gold Level -- GPA of 3.5 - 4.0 during the season of the sport.
3.  Silver Level -- GPA of 3.0 - 3.49 during the season of the sport.
