Women win OAC title, 3 conference records broken

NEW CONCORD — Junior Emily S Richards(Delaware/Hayes) led the Northern women's outdoor track and field team to the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships title on Saturday afternoon in New Concord. The team is ranked 14th nationally.

The Polar Bears (78-4 overall) claimed the title with 162 points.

As a team, Northern set three conference records in the meet.

Northern won the conference title for the first time in seven years.

Richards led the Polar Bears on the afternoon as she won two events and was part of the OAC Title clinching 4x400-meter relay.

Alger Jr Farmers met

The Alger Jr Farmers met on 4-23-17 at Alger park. Alyssa Leonard called the meeting to order. Mykal Ellerbrock led the Pledge of Allegiance and Elizabeth Thompson led the 4H Pledge. Roll call was taken by Graeson Evans. Treasurer's report was read and approved. 

In new business T-Shirt color and design was discussed with neon yellow being chosen. Reagan Pulfer and Elizabeth Thompson read the Health and Safety reports.            

Adviser Michelle Underwood stated that the Fair board will be cracking down on keeping pens and aisles cleaned during Fair week and after. 

Refreshments were provided by Connor Scott and Reagan Pulfer.

Violinists to perform Wednesday

Romanian violinists Anamaria Joldea and Estera Racz will perform in recital at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3 in Presser Hall. They will play a repertoire by Mendelssohn, Lalo, Bartók and Beethoven. The concert is free and open to the public.

Joldea has been studying violin since she was 5 years old. She has won the second prize at the Eugen Cuteanu Euro-regional Competition for Violin and Low Strings in Timisoara, Romania, and the first prize at the Sigismund Toduță International Festival in Deva, Romania. She currently is a freshman at the Sabin Dragoi High School of Arts in Romania.

ONU softball ends season 25-13

WILMINGTON -- The Ohio Northern softball team fell 2-1, 2-0 in their season finale on Sunday afternoon at Capital in Columbus.

The Polar Bears finish the season 25-13 overall and 9-9 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Crusaders improve to 25-15, 12-6.

Women's lacrosse ends season 3-13

BEXLEY — Freshmen Katie McCourt(Fairview Park/Magnificat) and Jacqui Lohman (Liberty Township/Lakota East) each tallied goals to lead the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team in a 17-2 loss at Capital on Saturday at Bernlohr Stadium.

The Polar Bears end their season 3-13 overall and 2-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Crusaders will enter next week's OAC Tournament at 11-3, 6-2.

McCourt scored on a free position shot with 2:45 left in the opening half and Lohman tallied a free position goal with 9:18 left in the game to lead the ONU offense.

Mary Alice Dodge 1931-2017

Mary Alice Dodge, 85, died April 28, 2017, at Bridge Hospice in Findlay.

Mary was born July 16, 1931, in Ada, Ohio, to Allen and Esther (Sites) High who preceded her in death. On Nov. 4, 1951, she married Rolland J. Dodge who survives.

Survivors include a daughter, Luann (Mark) Frisch of Carey, Ohio; a son, Dana Dodge of Bluffton; four grandchildren, Andrew Redick, Benjamin Redick, Travis Frisch, Joshua Dodge and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 2, at 11a.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ with Rev. Carol Clements to officiate the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
