The Chinese New Year, one of the most important of Chinese holidays, officially begins Feb. 10 but it's being ushered in early at the Ada Public Library.
On Monday, Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m. the Ada Public Library will host the ONU Asian American Student Union as they present "The Red Dragon", a performance for grades K through 5 and open to all. The performers will explain about the tradition and it's significance.
Children will receive a traditional Chinese New Year gift. Activities will include origami and Korean calligraphy.
Debbie Kelsey, an International Ministries missionary, will present "A European Country's Human Trafficking Problem and Solutions" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Ohio Northern University's Dicke Forum Room, located in the James Dicke Hall.
The presentation will be followed with a question and answer period. This presentation is open to the public and is free, according to Jack Duffy, pastor of First Baptist Church, Ada.

Dear Reader: When I think of gout, needles come to mind. An acute gout attack is the equivalent of needles poking around in the joint, oftentimes the large toe. Understandably, this will result in a lot of pain and swelling.
Ohio Northern University commemorates Black History Month this February with a number of scheduled events. Several campus organizations will collaborate to provide diverse opportunities to celebrate African-American heritage. Here is the schedule of February’s activities:
Black History Month basketball game “Black Out” Saturday, Feb. 9, at 3 p.m. in the ONU Sports Center
The Ohio Northern men's and women's indoor track & field teams will host a canned food drive during the Joe Banks Invitiational on Saturday at the ONU Sports Center.
Collection boxes will be set up inside and outside of the fieldhouse. Suggested items include canned fruit, soups, pasta, rice, cereal and baking items.
Ohio Northern is one of 11 teams that will be participating in the meet this weekend.
Field events begin at 11 am and running events will begin at noon.

Ohio Northern University’s Pettit College of Law presents Kevin P. Lee, professor of law at Campbell University School of Law, as part of its Dean’s Lecture Series in the Moot Court Room on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 4:20 p.m.
The title of Lee’s presentation is “The Citizen Lawyer in the Coming Era: How Technology is Changing the Practice of Law and What it Might Mean for the Future of the Lawyer’s Role in the American Democracy.”
