Observations, insights and sighting: Coming to Ada soon
New Business
The sign on the door says "Coming Soon." Vape N Chill will be located just north of China King on South Main. It will sell vapor supplies and have a vapor lounge (think e-cigarettes, a.k.a. electronic cigarettes).
Spring Break
Thereare fewer Polar Bears spotted roaming the "Tundra" this week. ONU's week-long Spring Break began last Friday. The students were probably glad to get out of this icebox with many heading to warmer climates for a week of sunshine and relaxation. The village always notices a drop in auto and pedestrian traffic during the university's vacation times. And, merchants feel the pinch with fewer local customers. ONU's break is earlier than at most colleges and universities.
High School Tourney Games
ONU hosted high school basketball games Thursday, March 12, and today, Saturday, March 14. Parking is always at a premium on those occasions. If homeowners had nearby property, they surely would collect plenty of parking fees by allowing people to park in their yards. but alas there are no homes in the vicinity. King-Horn will be filled to the rafters with spectators cheering their team to victory.
Money Found
They say the economy is better, but my informal survey says "not so." As trash picker-upper at the railroad park for the past two years, I noticed people held money in their fists more tightly last year. In 2013 I found over $17 in the park, in 2014 less the a dollar. Perhaps times got tougher; people kept better track of their change. Besides collecting tossed beer bottles and other sundry items, l do tend the plants occasionally, as well...and boy, do I look forward to spring.
