Here's the park board's list
By Monty Siekerman
What are the Ada Park Board's plans for the money that will be generated from the two property tax levies passed last fall by the voters in Ada and Liberty Township?
Here's their current thinking, in no particular order of priority:
Replace the park truck
Get on a 5 year rotation to replace park equipment
New Gator
New fence around stadium
New lines painted on the track
Work on bandshell and the bandshell roof
Tear down one of the shelter houses (Food Shelter House) and rebuild it
Basketball court needs work
Paint the inside and the panels in the restrooms under the stadium
New downspouts for the stadium restrooms
All the shelter houses need some attention
Repair pillars to the west entrance of the stadium
Paint the doors to the west entrance of the stadium
Pregame lights need replaced
New bleachers on the visitors side of stadium
Move the concession stand from the pool to the back ball diamonds
Mulch on the playground (special mulch)
Replace the south window in the old fraternity house which is now the park office
Widening road near Shelter #1
These ideas were discussed at the board's June meeting; no definite decisions have been made.
The board will begin receiving the money this fall. One levy was for 10 cents and one was for 15 cents for each $100 of valuation, both for 5 years.
The board thanked the public for supporting both levies. It is estimated that 2,000 people use the park each day in the spring and summer.
Both levies that passed last fall replace those approved by voters in the 1970s. Since then, inflation has cut into what could be accomplished with the property tax income that was generated by the levies that expired.
