A Responsible Pet Workshop will be held at Community Health Professionals, 1200 S. Main, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. The workshop is for owners of dogs, cats, and other small animals.

Melanie Butterfield, a Girl Scout ambassador for Alger Troop 20301, has organized the event as part of her gold award, which is the highest award given in Girl Scouts.

She is the daughter of Randy and Angie Butterfield, and is a senior who is homeschooled.

A veterinarian from Metz Pets and Amanda Sloan, from Open Heart Bully Rescue, will speak.

They will describe how to care for pets and tell pet rescue stories.

The event is free and open to the public. Those who bring a donation (pet food or toys) to be given to a pet rescue will receive an extra ticket for door prizes.  In addition, several four-legged friends will be on hand to meet.
