More than 200 students will compete in the Ohio Northern University District 6 Science Day in the Meyer Hall of Science and the Mathile Center for the Natural Sciences on Saturday, March 23. Judging begins at 9:30 a.m., and an awards ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m.
        
Students in grades five through 12 will display their scientific research and technological design projects on behalf of the Ohio Academy of Science.

Professionals from industry, government and academia will judge students on originality and creativity, use of scientific or technological design methods, clarity of expression, knowledge achieved, and teamwork.
        
District 6 is comprised of Allen, Auglaize, Hancock, Hardin, Logan, Mercer, Paulding, Putnam, Seneca and Van Wert counties.
        
Since the late 1940s, local, district and state science days have comprised Ohio’s largest and most far-reaching, project-based STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education program to prepare students for college, the workforce and citizenship.

Today, many of these students have advanced degrees and successful careers. Alumni include Truman and Fulbright scholars, a nuclear submarine commander, and an Ohio Supreme Court justice.
        
Students at district science days will vie for 1,200 slots and $2.2 million in scholarships and awards at State Science Day hosted by Ohio State University on May 11.

AEP Ohio, the Ohio Environmental Education Fund, Boehringer Ingelheim Roxane Inc., Battelle and the Ohio Academy of Science sponsor State Science Day.

Supported in part by the Technology Division of the Ohio Development Services Agency, STEM students with superior-rated scientific inquiry and technological design projects will receive Governor’s Thomas Edison Awards for Excellence in Student Research in Advanced Materials, Advanced or Alternative Energy, Agriculture and Food Technology, Biotechnology and Biomedical Technologies, Environmental Sciences, and Information Technology.
