The Ada Public Library has a new youth services librarian, Chloe Rieder. She joined the staff the first full week of 2022.

The Icon sat down to talk with Rieder (pronounced “reader”) on a Monday morning when the library hosts drop-in toddler play. Rieder’s first guest was Jolene McCoy (pictured below), the daughter of Elspeth and Ray McCoy of Ada. This was Jolene’s first visit to the library and she had a marvelous time exploring the books and toys in the children’s area.

Rieder returned to her hometown of Jenera in 2021. She has a bachelor’s degree from Heidelberg University and a Master of Library and Information Science degree from University of Missouri-Columbia.

As youth services librarian, Reider will be working with children and teens. The role includes purchasing books, providing programming and crafts, and providing outreach through the Ada schools. Reider explains that the library is for children “as young as possible,” and has activities for children of all ages. Rieder looks forward to “getting children in the library” and being a familiar face for them to remember.

Youth programming currently includes 

• Craft Pickup: All day Monday
• Drop-In Toddler Play: Monday, 11 a.m.
• Family Storytime: Wednesday, 11 a.m.
• Coloring Club: Friday, 3:30 p.m.

Reider will be visiting the Ada schools to meet students. The library provides school lending cards which give lending privileges for up to three books. Anyone three years old or older may be registered for a standard library card. Children under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian accompany them (with proof of current address) to register.
