She has also received a Fulbright scholarship to study music abroad, passing down her knowledge to her students at ONU.
One of her former students, Lydia, has studied Chinese music with her as well as traveled with Dr. Waters to China in 2019. In her time in her undergrad, Lydia focused her studies on Chinese stringed instruments including the erhu and sanxian with musicians from the Beijing Peking Opera Orchestra and pipa with Yang Wei, a musician with the Silk Road Ensemble founded by famous cellist, Yo Yo Ma.
