The Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law will host a CLE on “Ethics, Professionalism and Substance Abuse” in the large moot courtroom on Friday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. The CLE will include three lectures from top professionals tackling different viewpoints on the topic.

Dr. Manoranjan D’Souza, ONU assistant professor of pharmacology, will open the session with “Substance Abuse: Drugs of Abuse.” D’Souza’s research focuses on identifying neural mechanisms underlying drug dependence. At Ohio Northern University, D’Souza also is involved in teaching neuropharmacology to fourth- and fifth-year pharmacy students.

He has authored several peer-reviewed original scientific papers and book chapters on neural mechanisms of drugs of abuse and is an ad-hoc reviewer for several prestigious journals in the field of drug addiction.

Kevin Hill, ONU professor of law, will speak on “Professional Conduct in a Digital Age.” Hill’s teaching responsibilities include Civil Procedure I and II, Toxicological Liability, and Scientific Evidence and Expert Witnesses.

He served as the Pettit College of Law’s associate dean for academic affairs from 1995-99. Before coming to ONU in 1985, he taught at Temple University School of Law. Hill is a member of the Ohio Bar Association, Kentucky Bar Association, American Bar Association, Law and Science Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

The event will close with Mason Evans, director of Electronic Discovery Practice General Counsel for Interhack Corporation, speaking on “The Ethical Pitfalls of the Practice of Law in the Social Media.”

Evans joined Interhack as the director of its electronic discovery practice and general counsel in April 2012. Evans organizes Interhack’s capability to address the electronic discovery market consistent with the Interhack experience: expert consultation and opinion, artfully delivered.

Focusing on the needs of counsel to get to information quickly, to identify relevant sources of data for analysis, and to use the scientific method to provide a high degree of assurance in the integrity of the process, Interhack’s electronic discovery practice is a natural outgrowth of its work to date.
