Elementary students engage in Dime Wars to support Ada Food Pantry
By Paula Pyzik Scott
In the Ada Elementary School “Dime Wars” the winner is… the Ada Food Pantry. Local media were invited to witness the presentation of a check for $412.42 to the local non-profit organization. During the month of December, K-5 classes competed with each other to see which could collect the most change for a community need.
Five students were part of the presentation. Some said they raided their piggy banks to take part in the Dime Wars. Aurora Long, Brooks Young, Amelia Hollon, Harper Rigsby and Carlee Anderson spoke with the Icon about the project and met Trent Boedicker, who represented the Ada Food Pantry.
The food pantry is near and dear to the Ada Schools. In a nearby office, sat totes with 70 weekend food packages for Ada students. Elementary School Principal Jeremy Clark emphasized that “food is a basic need” and that the school was extremely appreciative of the ongoing support provided by the Ada Food Pantry. He commended the students for their generosity and community spirit.
Clark also sent out a message to Ada Elementary Families and Friends which noted, “Together, we are fostering a spirit of compassion, empathy, and unity within our school community” and thanked all who participated.
