Fred Fisher portrayed Abraham Lincoln at the LaFayette Memorial Day celebration.

Frederick E. “Fred” Fisher, 75, died on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 11:15 p.m. at Bluffton Hospital, Bluffton. 

He was born on April 2, 1941 in Bluffton, Ohio, to Basil W. and Eleanor (McElwain) Fisher who preceded him in death. On Oct. 2, 1993, he married Betty Lou Smith and she survives in LaFayette. 

Fred retired from Ford Motor Company as a repairman where he had worked for over 30 years. He attended the County Line Church of the Brethren. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Vietnam. He was a lifetime member of the Ada VFW Post #9381 and the Lima BPOE Lodge #54.

Ada Public Library Hiring Substitute Clerk

The Ada Public Library is currently taking resumes for a Substitute Clerk. The position will work on an as needed basis, does not include benefits, and pays $9/hr. Training will begin immediately after hire.

Those interested in the position may stop by the Library for a list of the Substitute Clerk's resposibilites, as well as to drop off a resume.

The deadline for those parties interested is Friday, May 20th.

Martin L. Linn was an Upper Scioto Valley HS graduate

Martin L. Linn, 57, was reunited with his son, Michael, in Heaven on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at 6:25 p.m. at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

He was born on Aug. 23, 1958, to Major and Deloris Marcine (Underwood) Linn who preceded him in death.

Martin worked at the Pepsi Cola Company of Lima. He was a 1976 Upper Scioto Valley High School graduate. He attended the Alger Assembly of God Church and the LaFayette Congregational Christian Church. Marty enjoyed photography, playing with his grandchildren, landscaping and was a major OSU fan.        

Connie Joan Park 1943-2016

Connie Joan Park, 73, died on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 10:55 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima. 

She was born on Feb. 13, 1943, in Lima, Ohio, to Theodore and LeNora (Rudy) Stemen. She married James Park on July 10, 1970, and he survives in Ada. 

Connie was a homemaker and an avid Bingo player.

Also surviving are three sons: Robert (Susan) Park of Spencerville, Jamie (Rhonda) Park and Gary “George” (Stacey) Park both of Ada; a daughter, Lisa Dysert of Ada; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; 

She was preceded in death by 2 infant brothers.

FRIENDS of the Ada Library Fundraiser

The FRIENDS of the Ada Public Library--think the Library's booster club--is hosting a fundraiser this coming Monday May 9th at El Campo Restaurant.

There will be Trivia and a 50/50 Raffle from 5:30-7p.m. and even if you're not a trivia fan, consider eating at El Campo--10% of the proceeds, between 4p.m.-10p.m. will go to the FRIENDS of the Library.

The FRIENDS of the Library supports the Library in many ways, inluding running used books sales, making donations toward items the Library needs (i.e. a storytime rug), and hosting events like their famous Halloween Party--this year alone over 600 people attended the FRIENDS of the Ada Library Halloween Party!

Mark Your Calendars for Summer Reading 2016

It's less than a month away--mark your calendars for the Ada Public Library Summer Reading Kick-Off, which includes:

  • Summer Reading Sign-up
  • 4-H Animals
  • Face Painting
  • Touch-a-Truck
  • a HUGE Used Book Sale

All events are free, except the Used Book Sale of course! Funds raised by the Book Sale--which will be run by FRIENDS of the Library members--go back to the Library and help in programming costs.

If you don't already have an Ada Library card consider signing-up today, as it will be needed to participate in the Summer Reading program.
