Alvena I. “Terri” Conley 1929-2017

Alvena I. “Terri” Conley, age 87, died on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at 9:50pm at Dublin Methodist Hospital, Dublin.

            She was born on September 10, 1929, in Fort Amanda, Ohio to Jesse and Bertha (Burchin) Thomas who preceded her in death.  On December 9, 1950, Terri married Clyde M. Conley and he died on November 10, 1990.

Jump in, the water's fine!

30 degree temps...30 mph wind gusts...and ONU students went swimmin' on Saturday morning...all for a good cause. Delta Sigma Phi, who sponsored the 7th annual Polar Plunge at the lake in Fraternity Circle, hoped to raise $1,500 for the American Red Cross. The Ada/Liberty Ambulance and Ada/Liberty Fire Department ice rescue team were in hand to provide safety. Heaters in a tent were welcome by those who took the dive. People sponsored the swimmers, with the money raised then given to the Red Cross. (Monty Siekerman photos)

Beta Club inducts new members

Junior high recognition for students who earned high academic achievement

Names of new inductees and current members are listed in two attachments below -
Twenty-two new members were inducted into the Ada Junior High Beta Club late ast week, according to Julie Thaxton, junior high teacher.

"We recognized our eighth grade second-year members and the 22 new members who earned high academic achievement during the first semester this year," she said. 

The eighth grade officers took turns speaking and lighting candles that represented the many characteristics and values of the National Beta Club. 

Going to the Big Dance

27-0 ONU earns automatic bid to NCAA D3 tourney

The nationally ranked #5 Ohio Northern women's basketball team claimed the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament title and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament with a 70-55 victory over Wilmington on Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears will await the NCAA Selection Show to find out there fate in the NCAA III Tournament.

The Polar Bears remain perfect on the season and improve to 27-0 with the victory.

With the victory, the 2016-17 Polar Bears now own the longest winning streak in school history at 27 games.

Eunice M. Rayl 1917-2017

Eunice M. Rayl, age 99, died on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at 1:30am at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

She was born on May 6, 1917, in Rural Harrod to Ross and Ruah (Lawrence) McKinney who preceded her in death.

On April 12, 1941, Eunice married H. Dick Rayl and he died on November 24, 1994.

Eunice was a homemaker and beautician.

She was a graduate of Frederick's Cosmetology School in Lima.

She is survived by two daughters: Jean Stavenger and Joyce (Edward) Barga both of Ada; four grandchildren: Jason (Stephanie) Stavenger, Julie Stavenger, Jeff Barga, and Jenny Barga; and two great-grandchildren: Hunter Stavenger and Leah Harpest.

Ada elementary students present "Freeze Frame!"

The Ada Elementary second and third graders will present the musical "Freeze Frame!" at 1:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, in the school auditorium.

“Freeze Frame!” is the hottest new game show where freeze teams of performers spin into positions depicting their favorite wintertime activities. Host Chris Coldplay, and panelists Marty Snow, Scott and Dorothy Axel, and Winter Meriweather compete in this winter-themed guessing game.
