Women's basketball: ONU 7-0 for the first time ever

As they blow out Wilmington 78-51

The No. 19-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team improved to 7-0 for the first time in school history as it defeated Wilmington 78-51 Wednesday evening at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears improve to a perfect 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Quakers fall to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the OAC.

Senior Britt Lauck (Lima/Shawnee) and sophomore Jenna Dirksen (Beavercreek/Carroll) scored 19 and 18 points, respectively, to lead the Polar Bears offensively.

Dirksen eclipsed her previous career-high of 11 points during the contest.

Ada school music department's Christmas concert Monday

Eight groups will perform

The Ada HS music department will present its Christmas concert at 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 12, in the school auditorium.

Performing will be Ada Varsity Singers, High School Choir, Jr. High Choir,  6th Grade Choir, High School Concert Band,  Jr. High Band, and 5th and 6th Grade Bands.

Gerald "Ponch" Dearth was retired from Ford Motor Co.

Gerald E. "Ponch" Dearth, age 78, died on Wednesday, December 07, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Van Crest of Ada.

He was born on November 5, 1938 in Ada, Ohio to Edwin Keith and Mary (Reed) Dearth who preceded him in death. On December 28, 1957 Gerald married Dorleen P. Hattery and she preceded him in death on June 11, 1995.

Gerald "Ponch" retired after 30 years from Ford Motor Company of Lima in 1987. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a life member of the Ada VFW Post#9381, where he also served as a former member and president of the Dad's Club. Gerald "Ponch" served as a member of the VFW Post Honor Guard. He was a lifetime member of the AmVets of Lakeview.

Gift continues partnership between College of Engineering and Marathon Petroleum

Marathon Petroleum Company LP, which is headquartered in Findlay, Ohio, recently made a gift of $5,000 to the Ohio Northern University T.J. Smull College of Engineering as part of Marathon’s Adopt-A-College program. The funds will be used to support student organization activities in ONU’s College of Engineering, particularly student design competitions.

ONU players named to All-North Region in D3football

Senior Scott Rapps (Bay Village/Bay), junior Zach Schmerge (Wapakoneta) and sophomore Joe French (Elgin, Ill./St. Edward Central Catholic) were named All-North Region in football for 2016 by D3football.com.

Rapps and Schmerge were Second Team All-Region selections and French was a Third Team All-Region honoree. All three players are making their first appearance on the All-Region squad. This marks the 12th year that D3football.com has recognized an All-Region squad. A total of 19 ONU players have been named All-Region since the team's inception in 2005.
