ONU track has strong showing

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The Ohio Northern men's track and field team posted a strong showing as it competed at the Dr. Keeler Invitational hosted by North Central (Ill.) College on Thursday and Friday.

No team scores were kept in the meet.

Junior Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) led the way for Northern on day one, smashing his season-best time in the 5,000-meter run and finishing eighth in the race in 14:36.85.

Senior Alex Sibila (Zionsville, Ind.) finished third in the high jump, tying his career-high mark with a leap of 6' 7".

It was a hip hoppin’, jive jumpin’ time at the Railroad Park Friday evening when ONU instrumentalists played an informal concert for all of those who gathered or were drawn in by the music.

Members of Tau Beta Sigma and Kappa Kappa Psi, the honorary band fraternity and sorority, traditionally gather in the park to entertain Adaites the Friday before commencement.

The lively music always begins with the ONU Fight Song. And, it’s a time for longtime Band Director Charles Bates to hand off the baton to students to lead the 30-piece band that evening.

Softball wins first game in NCAA tourney

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Senior Kirsten Lightel (Tallmadge) threw a 6-hit shutout to lead the Ohio Northern softball team to a 1-0 victory over Case Western Reserve in the first game of the NCAA III Softball Notre Dame, Indiana Regional Tournament on a chilly Friday afternoon at the Purcell Athletic Fields.

The Polar Bears (31-9 overall) advance in the winner's bracket on Saturday at 11 am and will face No. 19-ranked Saint Mary's (Ind.), who defeated Mount Aloysius (Pa.) 6-1 in Friday's second game.

ONU now out of tourney with loss

WESTERVILLE -- The Ohio Northern baseball team dropped a hard-fought 2-0 decision to No. 25-ranked Marietta and bowed out of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon at Fishbaugh Field.

The Polar Bears fall to 27-15 overall, while the Pioneers improve to 27-15.

A little music in the park Friday until 7 p.m.

Traditionally, the ONU Jazz Band plays music in Railroad Park the Friday before commencement. This year the instrumentals will give a casual performance from 5-7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair, sit back, and enjoy the outdoor concert.
