Ada history in the making

Ada Historical Society invites you to be a charter member

The first ever Ada Historical Society dinner and membership drive will be held on Monday, May 7. Those who join that evening will be charter members of the organization.

There will be an open reception from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Railroad Depot.

“We look forward to meeting you and having an opportunity to introduce our group and goals,” said President Rhett Grant. “If you have an interesting piece of your history that you would like to share, bring your stories and photos as we would love to see and hear them.” There will be several historical displays to be viewed at the reception.

ONU softball team wins OAC title

First time since 2009 season

For the first time since the 2009 season, the Ohio Northern softball team has been crowned the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Champions after defeating host and No. 1 seed Otterbein 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in the title game at the Otterbein Softball Field.

The Polar Bears (30-9 overall) become the first team since current head coach Jackie (Mangola) Price made the NCAA Tournament as a player and current assistant coach Tina (Mangola) Martinez made the NCAA Tournament as an assistant coach for ONU in 2012, to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.

OAC baseball tourney pairings set

Ohio Northern will be the No. 4 seed in the 2018 OAC Baseball Tournament May 10-12 at Otterbein.

The Polar Bears will play top-seeded host Otterbein in the first game on Thursday with second-seeded Marietta and third-seeded Baldwin Wallace meeting in the second opening round contest in the double-elimination tournament.

Game times will be announced soon.

Thursday's winners will face off in Game 2 on Friday with Thursday's losers following in an elimination game on Friday.

Ada’s Spring Fever Follies Friday night

The popular Ada High School Spring Fever Follies will be held Friday, May 11 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. 

This year’s Follies titled "Oh the Places You’ll Go" features songs about travel and the world.  Musical styles range from pop and rock to musical theatre with students performing solos, duets and large ensemble numbers.

 Eleven graduating choir members will be recognized during the program.  Over 45 Ada Junior Varsity Singers including student in grades 1-8 will again be a part of this year's program.

Bulldog boys 3rd at Ada Invite

ADA - The Ada boys team finished a strong third out of 16 teams at the 57th annual Ada Invitational track meet on a sunny Saturday at War Memorial Stadium.

 

Van Wert swept both the boys and girls team titles. VW won the boys event with 95.5 points, followed by Spencerville (68) and Ada (66).

 

Ada junior Noah Mattson finished second in the shot put and third in the discus to pace the Bulldog boys. Ada sophomore Michael Crouse also took second in the 400 meters.

 

Women’s tennis loses in OAC finals

MASON — Ohio Northern saw its season come to an end with a 5-1 losss to John Carroll in the finals of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament on Saturday at the Lindner Tennis Center.

The second-seeded Polar Bears end their season with a 19-7 record, while the top-seeded Blue Streaks improve to 18-6 overall and receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Championships.

Junior Ashley Ochsenhirt (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) and sophomore Katie Curry (Oxford/Talawanda) rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win 9-7 at No. 3 doubles to lead ONU.
