Ada's Beaschler wins sectional net crown

Mullins also advances to districts

DEFIANCE - The Ada boys tennis team advanced two singles players to the district level with a pair of top-three performances in Div. II sectional play at Defiance Saturday.

Ada senior Zach Beaschler was the top seed in the singles flight at Defiance, and he showed why by winning handily all six sets he played. He received a first round bye in the 31-player field, then won 6-0, 6-1 in the second round over Saleh.

In the quarterfinals, Beaschler rolled over Sayre 6-0, 6-0 to reach the semifinals against Bulldog teammate Cade Mullins.

SPENCERVILLE - The Ada boys finished a strong fourth and the Lady Bulldogs came in seventh out of nine teams at the two-day Northwest Conference track and field meet in Spencerville Thursday and Saturday.

 

Columbus Grove swept to both the boys and girls NWC team titles, winning a tight three-team race in the male standings.

 

The Grove boys narrowly out-pointed Bluffton 111-107 to win the conference crown. Lincolnview was a very close third at 106.5 points, followed by Ada in fourth (96). Allen East was seventh with 36 points.

 

Winner-take-all softball game set

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The NCAA III Softball Notre Dame, Indiana Regional Tournament will be extended to a seventh game after Case Western Reserve topped Ohio Northern 5-0 in Game 6 on Sunday afternoon at the Purcell Athletic Fields.

The Polar Bears (32-10 overall) and the Spartans (34-9 overall) will play a winner-take-all Game 7 at approximately 4:30 pm as both teams now have one loss in the double-elimination tournament.

That winner will advance to the Super Regional round to face either Calvin (Mich.) or No. 17-ranked Hope (Mich.) in a best-of-3 series next weekend.

Relay for Life in Kenton July 13

Many participants will join together at the annual Relay For Life of Hardin County at the Kenton Courthouse square to help the American Cancer Society. The event starts at 6 p.m. on July 13 and will last until midnight.

 

 Last year, 2.7 million participants in the U.S. raised more than $279 million at more than 3,500. 

 

Softball moves to championship game

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Ohio Northern softball team scored four times in the third inning and went on to defeat No. 19-ranked Saint Mary's (Ind.) 5-0 in Game 3 of the NCAA III Softball Notre Dame, Indiana Regional Tournament on a wet Saturday morning at the Purcell Athletic Fields.

The Polar Bears (32-9 overall) advance to the finals and will play for the Regional title on Sunday at Noon. Northern will face the winner of Saturday afternoon's loser's bracket game needing just one more victory to win the double-elimination tournament.

ONU women’s track excels

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The Ohio Northern women's track and field team excelled as it competed in the annual Dr. Keeler Invitational hosted by North Central (Ill.) College in Naperville this weekend.

 

No teams score were kept in the meet.

On day one of the meet, junior Kristina Myers (Orient/Central Crossing) ran a season-best time of 19:10.50 in the 5,000-meter run, while junior Ashlie Baumann (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) finished the race in 18:07.46 and freshman Megan Wright(Eaton/Twin Valley South) finished in 19:17.28.
