Lloyd A. Paul, 1935 - 2018

Lloyd A. Paul, age 83 died on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.

          He was born on January 21, 1935 in Allen County, Ohio to the late Alexander and Nettie (Reidell) Paul.  On March 18, 1956 Lloyd married Mary (Klingler) Paul and she survives in Harrod.

          Lloyd worked as a carpenter for the Local #372 of Lima for 64 years.  He was a 1954 graduate of LaFayette-Jackson High School. 

          Also surviving is a son, Dennis (Linda) Paul of Harrod; two daughters: Karen (Ken) Bender and Diana (Joe) Johnson both of Cridersville; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Sayler of Michigan.

Al Baillis turns 94

Ada Kiwanis Club members will visit retired, longtime law professor Al Baillis this week when they meet. He now resides on Pevee Road just west of Ada. Al will be 94 years old on May 11. He is a life member of Kiwanis, having joined the service club 60 years ago. (Kiwanis Club Facebook photo)

Bulldog boys shut out by FJ

FT. JENNINGS - Visiting Ada lost 13-0 to Ft. Jennings Wednesday evening in a non-conference baseball game.

 

The Bulldogs fell to 4-14 with the defeat.

 

FJ scored four runs in the home first, then put the game out of reach with eight more in the bottom of the second frame.

 

Senior Colten Shaffer singled. drew two walks and and stole two bases for Ada. Senior Aaron Everhart also singled and stole a base. Sophomore Tyson Moore added the other Bulldog hit.

 

FJ out-hit Ada, 8-3. They also drew 10 walks and capitalized on five Ada errors to score five unearned runs.

 

Men’s lacrosse loses in OAC championship finals

Ohio Northern posted a strong showing in its first-ever Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Tournament appearance, but ultimately fell to Baldwin Wallace 8-6 on Wednesday night at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The second-seeded Polar Bears end their season with a 14-3 record, while the third-seeded Yellow Jackets advance to Saturday'schampionship game with an 11-4 mark.

ONU won a share of the OAC Regular Season crown with a 7-1 league record in just the program's third year of existence.

Crop prices higher

Here is how Ohio crop prices are compared to a month ago and a year ago with corn, beans, and wheat all doing somewhat better.

March corn, at $3.79 per bushel, increased $0.15 from February and increased $0.10 from last year; 

March soybeans, at $10.10 per bushel, increased $0.28 from last month and increased $0.18 from last year; 

March wheat, at $4.90 per bushel, increased $0.44 from February and increased $0.68 from last year.

Robert "Bob" Ward, 1922 - 2018

Robert L. “Bob” Ward, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Mercy St. Vincent Hospital, Toledo.

He was born on January 5, 1922 in Lima to the late Clifford and Daisy (Kiser) Ward.  On March 31, 1944, Bob married Gladys M. Newland and she survives in Harrod. 

          Bob retired from Clark Equipment after 40 years.  He was a charter member of the Auglaize Bible Church.  His favorite hymn was Victory in Jesus. Bob was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during WWII in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.
