The Ohio Northern women's tennis team will open the fall portion of its 2017-18 schedule under 17th-year head coach Scott Wills on Sept. 6 with a tri-match at Defiance with Concordia (Mich.)
Northern will also compete at the Kenyon Invitational and the ITA Regional Championships at Oberlin.
The Kenyon Invitational will include one of the strongest fields in the country for Fall competition.
ONU will hit the courts against nationally-ranked Carnegie Mellon (Pa.), Kenyon, Case Western Reserve, Denison and Oberlin in addition to host of regionally ranked foes.
The Polar Bears finished the 2016-17 season 22-5 overall and 7-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
ONU will hold children’s auditions for the “Holiday Spectacular” at 1 p.m.on Sunday, Sept. 10, in the Freed Center.
Auditions will be held for singers and dancers, ages 5 to 12. Those who are auditioning may be asked to sing and should be ready to participate in a dance call (jazz and/or tap shoes). There will not be prepared dance or vocal solos.
The Holiday Spectacular has been a regional tradition for more than 20 years and includes dancing, singing and skits. It is performed at both the Freed Center as well as in Lima.
Ticket pre-sales continue through Aug. 24 for the annual Ada Music Boosters BBQ, held before the first home football game from 4:30 to 6:00 on Friday, Sept. 8. The Bulldogs host LCC on Senior Night at War Memorial Stadium, game time 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $9.
The meal is a major fund-raiser for the Boosters with proceeds benefitting projects for the music department. There are four ways to obtain tickets:

ADA - The Ada volleyball team beat local non-league foes Cory-Rawson and Waynesfield-Goshen convincingly on Saturday to open the promising 2017 season on a strong note.
The Bulldogs (2-0) dismissed the Hornets and Tigers in straight sets. Meanwhile, Cory defeated Waynesfield in the middle match.
The Bulldogs had a little more trouble with C-R, winning 25-14, 25-16 in the opener.
Senior Melina Woods paced Ada with 14 kills, three digs and three blocks vs. C-R. Senior Maddie Gossard served three aces and dished out nine assists. Sophomore Sidney Gossard doled out seven assists and added one ace.
The Ohio Northern University observatory will be open to the public to view “The Great American Solar Eclipse” from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21. The observatory is located on the west side of campus, off of Lincoln Avenue and near the baseball field.
“We will not experience totality in Ada, but the sun will be covered up to 85 percent,” said Jason Pinkney, Ph.D., professor of physics and astronomy and manager of the ONU observatory.
Angela Kay Joseph, age 56 died on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 4:32 a.m. at her residence in Alger surrounded by her family.
She was born on November 6, 1960 in Lima, Ohio to Melvin and Norma Jean (Hensley) Biederman, Sr. Her father survives in Wapakoneta and her mother preceded her in death.
