MIDDLE POINT - After a close first quarter, host Lincolnview
outscored Ada 31-11 over the middle periods to post a 59-34 win in Northwest Conference boys basketball action Friday night.  

The Bulldogs dropped to 3-15 overall and 2-4 in the NWC with the defeat. Meanwhile, the Lancers improved to 10-8 and 5-2 in league play after the victory.  

The Lancers led just 12-8 after the opening stanza. But Lincolnview held Ada to three second quarter points to grab a 26-11 intermission bulge.

OSU Extension state specialists will spend the day on Thursday, Feb. 21, to share information with farmers in a small group hands-on workshop being held at the OSU Extension office, 1021 W Lima St.,  Kenton. The workshop will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude by 3:30 p.m. This soybean workshop is open to soybean producers from across Ohio.

Topics and presenters for the day-long event include: 

• Soybean Production Management Strategies by Dr. Laura Lindsey, Soybean and Wheat Extension Specialist; 

• Soybean Weed Management Update by Dr. Mark Loux, Extension Weed Specialist; 

• Soybean Disease Management by Dr. Anne Dorrance, Field Crop Extension Pathologist;

A food allergy diagnosis can dramatically alter one’s life as it requires constant vigilance during meals and snacks and preparation in case a severe allergic reaction occurs. This halfcourt shot is worth a $500 scholarship

Over 90 Ada High School students participated in the first-ever AHS "Pack The Pound" Night during Thursday night's girls' basketball game.

Cade Mullins hit a halfcourt shot to win a $500 scholarship sponsored by Ryan Yoakum State Farm Insurance.

In addition, 10 students won Under Armour "Pack The Pound" T-shirts, sponsored by Lima Sporting Goods.

Here's Cade receiving his big check from State Farm. The next "Pack The Pound" Night is Friday, Feb. 22, when Ada boy's entertain Bluffton in an  NWC basketball game.

Second consecutive season for Ian McVey

ONU Senior All-American Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) has been tabbed the All-Ohio Division III Men's Runner of the Year for the second consecutive season.

In 2018, McVey won his second straight All-Ohio Championship title with a 24:23.8 clocking at Silver Creek Metro Park, the second-fastest time in school history for an 8,000-meter course.

The senior standout would capture six individual crowns this season, including his second successive Ohio Athletic Conference Championship and Great Lakes Regional Championship crowns.

He also secured his second career All-America honor after ending fifth at the NCAA Championships in Winneconne, Wisc.

The boil water alert for a portion of South Main Street, Ada, was lifted by the village at 3:06 p.m. today (Feb. 7).

The Ada Water System experienced a water line break on Wednesday morning, which loss of pressure in a water main affecting 900 S. Main St., to 1012 S. Main St.

Senior guard Jenna Dirksen (Beavercreek/Carroll) became the 16th player in Ohio Northern women's basketball history to surpass the 1,000 career point threshold Wednesday evening in a 61-39 conference loss to Otterbein inside the Rike Center.

Dirksen entered Wednesday's contest needing just one point to join Ohio Northern's 1,000-Point Club. With 5:26 remaining in the opening quarter, she would knock down a three-pointer from the left wing to eclipse the milestone with 1,002 career points.

Presentation to Dick Lawrence made during Tuesday's Rotary fundraiser

Dick Lawrence, a 45-year member of Ada Rotary, is a Paul Harris (times 7) Award recipient.

Lawrence (left) received the award during the Tuesday evening Rotary Super Bowl at Norada Lanes. Presenting the award is Richard Meininger (right) as  Bill Trudeau (center) watches.

The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation.

For Lawrence, this recognition is his seventh Harris award.

In honor of couple’s daughter

ADA – Beth and Dennis Funderburg of Dayton have established a scholarship fund to help ensure that future Ohio Northern University students receive the same high-quality educational experience that prepared their daughter for a successful career in medicine.

Andrea (Funderburg) Murphy earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from ONU in 2000. She continued her education at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and is now a practicing physician in Cincinnati.

The Ada Senior Citizens will meet Wednesday, Feb. 13,  at 12:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Community Health Professionals.  The business meeting will be followed with euchre and other card and board games.  Membership dues of $10 for 2019 may be paid at this meeting.

Wednesday, Feb 27, the Ada Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. or shortly thereafter for the buy-one and get-one free buffet at East of Chicago in Ada.  Bring a friend or pair up with someone after you arrive.  The group will then go to the Community Room of the community Health Professionals for euchre and other card and board games.
