CORRECTION: Friday hours of operation corrected

The Cask Room, 127 S. Main, has new proprietors, effective February 28, 2022. Denise D’Arca has purchased the business from founders Steve and Sue Bates.

The biggest change coming to the establishment will be the addition of a menu featuring chicken wings and sandwiches once the food license is issued. D’Arca notes that the atmosphere and staff will stay the same. Her husband and son will assist with bookkeeping and menu, while daughter-in-law Eliza Keller is behind the bar.

Baseball, softball, soccer and track were all on view at the Ada Village Park this week [March 18, 2022]. Thursday's weather was sunny and possibly perfect.

Lawrence C. “Larry” Vivolo, age 79, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at 11:24 a.m. at The Springs of Lima, surrounded by his family.

He was born on December 10, 1942, in Warren, Ohio to the late Lawrence C. and Frances (Sherock) Vivolo. In August of 1994 Larry married Marilyn L. Shadley and she survives in Wapakoneta.

Also surviving are his four children: Larry Vivolo of Scotstboro, AL, Tony (Shannon) Vivolo of Las Vegas, NV, Candace (Rob) Malyszek of Moorpark, CA, and Shane (Natalie) Coleman of Alpharetta, GA; five grandchildren: Daniel, Alyssa, Austin, Kaden, and Bailee; and a sister, Nancy Flaviano of Niles.

U.S. 68 between Washington Street and Wayne Street in the village of Dunkirk will close on Tuesday, March 22, for approximately three days for railroad repairs.

Detour: U.S. 30 to SR 235 to SR 81 back to U.S. 68 (see map).

For the last few years, we have focused on the current crisis of COVID-19. We may have been so focused that other critical parts of our health lapse. Several studies have published data that we have been ignoring some important health issues.

Ohio Northern freshman Holden Cubberley (Celina) competed in the 3-meter diving competition at the NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday, March 16 at IUPUI Natatorium.

Cubberley posted a final score of 395.75 points for 11 dives in the Trials portion of the competition, placing him 19th in the field of 23.

The top eight finishers from the Trials advanced to the Finals, while finishers 9-16 advanced to the Consolation Finals.

Ellen L. Hipsher, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at 6:34 a.m. at her residence.

Ellen was born on February 6, 1929, in Dunkirk, Ohio to the late Roy and Olive (Blem) Morgan.  On April 30, 1948, Ellen married Jess W. Hipsher and he survives in Dunkirk.

Also surviving are her two sons: Neil (Beth) Hipsher and Jess (Jan) Hipsher both of Dunkirk; four grandchildren, and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Graveside service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2022, at Dunkirk Cemetery, Dunkirk with Pastor Gregg King officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
