MEDIA RELEASE__OSU Extension Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Educator Jami Dellifield has been recognized with the prestigious Distinguished Service Award (DSA) from the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS).
Dellifield received the award on Thursday, October 1, during the NEAFCS National Conference in Knoxville, Tennessee.
ADA__The Ada High School girls soccer team blanked visiting Hardin County rival Kenton 3-0 in a non-league match on Thursday, Oct. 8 at War Memorial Stadium.
Sophomore Shay Smith scored two goals to pace the victors.
Ada improved to 12-1-2 with the home clean sheet win.
MEDIA RELEASE__The U.S. Department of Agriculture hs announced a $56 million Community Facilities Direct Loan Program to Ohio Northern University. The funds will finance a new 60,000 square-foot health and wellness center and the renovation of an 18,000 square-foot classroom and lab facility for exercise physiology and health sciences. These community facilities will serve students and local community members, expanding access to essential health and wellness services in rural Ohio.
The new center and renovated facility will expand access to essential health services in Ada while preparing for the next generation of health care professionals.
MEDIA RELEASE__The Institute for Civics and Public Policy (ICAPP) has released a new explainer examining the role, benefits, and procedural steps of chartered municipalities in Ohio. Authored by Curtis Ware, Evan Kimmel, and Laureen Childs, the publication, titled "ICAPP Examines: Chartered Cities/Municipalities in Ohio," details how local communities can exercise Home Rule authority to tailor local government structure to community-specific needs.
The Circle K chapter at Ohio Northern University will host the October 26 Halloween parade with registration beginning at 5:00 p.m. and the parade starting at 6:00 p.m.

MEDIA RELEASE__The Hardin County Master Gardener Volunteer program will host its annual Fall Children’s Program, on Saturday, October 17 from 10 a.m. to noon. The program will take place at the Friendship Gardens located at 960 West Kohler Street, Kenton, OH 43326.
Children 5 and up can attend and must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.
This year, children will be discovering the amazing world of native insects and the plants they call home. Children will explore eight fun, hands-on activity stations that offer exciting opportunities to learn, discover, and enjoy the outdoors.

In the 5th century B.C., the “Father of Medicine” Hippocrates referred to a disease known as the “arthritis of the rich.” He noted that a life of luxury, including idleness and heavy drinking and eating, resulted in this condition that today we know as gout. In the 16th-18th centuries, gout was known as the “disease of kings.” Monarchs such as Henry VIII were known to have gout as a result of his rich diet and this was culturally glorified to show your wealth. In the United States, Benjamin Franklin is known to have a history with gout.
