Marilyn J. Shaw-Mullett, age 75, died on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 6:17 a.m. at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
She was born on September 28, 1942 in Lima, Ohio to the late Howard and Lilian (Mowery) Sprague. On October 7, 2009 Marilyn married David L. Mullett and he survives in Ada.
Marilyn retired from Hardin Hills Nursing Home of Kenton, where she worked as a nurse’s aide. She previously worked for Essex Wire of Kenton. She attended the Victory Chapel of Praise, Roundhead.
The same natural curiosity that spurred Jake Zimmerman toward a career in science has resulted in a patent for a research project that could eventually lead to a breakthrough to more easily detect dangerous amounts of lead in drinking water.
Zimmerman, associate professor of chemistry at Ohio Northern University, has long studied the ability of fluorescent compounds to serve as chemical sensors. He continued to see practical applications to his research, particularly in regards to current events.
The result was the awarding of both U.S. and international patents for his work in September, following an involved process.

Hardin County Extenstion Educator Mark Badertscher's report on corn and bean crops as of earlier this week: The weather is turning into a foe with regards to the completion of harvest in Hardin County.
Progress on soybean harvest has been slow over the past couple of weeks with the onset of rain, causing the need for dryer weather to finish the fields that are still out there.
Why not go a little crazy...and let off steam. The Ada High School Marching Band is competing at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis today. They will join 99 other top bands in the country that have been invited to Naptown for the premier marching band event of the season, the Bands of America Grand National Championships.
Lower corn yields in the county were accompanied by lower corn prices.
Soybean prices were good, but yields were less.
In Liberty Township, where Ada is located, nearly 28 inches of rain fell during the growing season, according to local observer Phil Epley.
With the help of 15 volunteer rainfall reporters, the Hardin County Extension office has collected unofficial township rainfall data for the past 25 consecutive years.
The Ada Schools will have parent-teacher conferences for students in grades K-12 on Monday, Nov. 20 from 4 until 8:30p.m. and on Tuesday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Students will only attend school on Monday, Nov. 20that week. There will not be school on Nov. 21 or 22 for conferences or Nov. 23 and Nov. 24 for Thanksgiving Break.
Elementary conferences will be student-led. Parents should bring their child with them so that the student, along with his or her teacher, can share information about this year’s progress. Parents had the opportunity to sign up for conference times at open house.
