Genetic counselor to speak at ONU’s Personalized Medicine Coalition meeting
Diane Smith, a genetic counselor for the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Center, will be the guest speaker at the Ohio Northern University student chapter of the Personalized Medicine Coalition (PMC) meeting in the Hakes-Pierstorf Family Pharmacy Education Center, Room 151, on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 6 p.m.
Smith is a certified genetic counselor and will speak on genetic counselors’ role with pharmacists in advancing patient education in genetics and pharmacogenetics. Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Science in molecular biology from Ohio Northern University in 2007 and received her master’s degree in genetic counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2009.
The PMC was launched in 2004 to educate the public and policymakers and to promote new ways of thinking about health care. Today, the PMC represents a broad spectrum of more than 200 academic, industry, patient, provider and payer communities as it seeks to advance the understanding and adoption of personalized medicine concepts and products for the benefit of patients.
The Raabe College of Pharmacy was the first college of pharmacy in the country to belong to the PMC.
