Volunteers needed for Real Money, Real World
The Hardin County office of OSU Extension is looking for volunteers to help with the Signature Program Real Money, Real World.  In the program, staff from our office teaches 8th grade students the basics about money management, such as how education effects income, checking vs. savings accounts, how to write a check, and what monthly expenses most adults face.  During the lessons, students are assigned a career, salary, and number of children they must support.  These lessons lead up to the Real Money, Real World Simulation.

At the Simulation, volunteers staff various booths that represent monthly expenses.  The expenses including housing, transportation, food, child care, charitable giving, etc.  The students then use their monthly salary to try to make ends meet by visiting each booth and paying their bills.  The volunteers at each booth simply explain what the expense is paying for, and help students decide what services and goods they need.

This year our office is conducting the Real Money, Real World program at Ada Junior High and Kenton Middle School.  We are in need of volunteers for both simulation days.
Ada Simulation- May 10, at Ada Schools, volunteers needed from 12:30PM to 3:30PM.
Kenton Simulation- May 28, at Kenton Middle School, volunteers needed from 12:30PM to 3:00PM.

Please let me know if you are able to help with one or both of these events.  We are in need of around 20 volunteers for each event.  This is a great opportunity to help Hardin County youth on their journey towards becoming responsible citizens, and get them thinking about their futures.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call our office and speak with Kathy Oliver, Mark Light, or Amanda Raines.
