Ada's latest news

Ashley Sumner, '16 Ada HS grad, is this summer's pool manager

When the Ada Municipal Pool opens on Wednesday you’ll probably see Ashley Sumner making certain everything is in order.

The 2016 Ada High School grad is the year’s pool manager, after serving as assistant manager last year. She’s also worked the pool as a cashier. Ashley graduated from Ohio University this spring with a degree in early childhood education.

Assistant managers are Alexa Hawk (covid-19 compliance manger), Josie Poling and Caitlyn Stover.

The Icon caught up with Ashley last week as she was in the midst of a training session with lifeguards and cashiers. Here’s some of the things you’ll need to know about swimming in Ada this summer.

You could find everything you want at Lowry's Grocery, 225 N. Main St., Ada, in this post card photo taken sometime after 1912. Count the stars on the U.S. flag at the rear of the store. It has 48 stars with Arizona being the 48th state that year.

Designed for shoppers to hand their grocery list to the clerk behind the counter, we see apples in a basket, cans stacked on the upper shelves and what appear to be boxes of cigars near the front entrance.

The 2019 Ada Consumer Confidence Report, also known as CCR, is now available to the public.

Making the report available is an annual requirement for compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act for community water systems throughout the country.

According to the U.S. EPA, the report “lists the regulated contaminants found in the drinking water…..as well as health effects information.”

The village passes this information along to its consumers not just to comply with the federal regulations, but also because the administration feels it is important for consumers to know where their drinking water comes from and what affects it.

John Thomas Wireman, Sr., 66, died on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at 10:44 p.m. at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay.

He was born on July 9, 1953, in Lima, Ohio to Lesle and Marie (Lyons) Wireman.

John lived many places in Texas, Michigan and Ohio throughout his life. He was a loving father, son, friend and especially grandfather. John loved old western movies, especially John Wayne. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.  John’s greatest joy was being a father and grandfather. He always had a story to tell his grandkids and all the candy and snacks they could ever want. He was a huge Ohio State Buckeye fan just like his father.

Ada Mayor David Retterer welcomed the 2020 Ada pool staff to their summer employment with the village last week. The staff was hired earlier in June and last week spent several hours learning about their new jobs and how the pool operates. Click here for a list of the pool staff.
