ONU to host ‘Accounting Pilot and Bridge Project’ training program
The Ohio Northern University Dicke College of Business Administration and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants are hosting a three-day training program on the Accounting Pilot and Bridge Project (APBP) from Oct. 13-15.
Dan Deines, CPA, the KPMG Peat Marwick professor of accounting at Kansas State University, will oversee the three-day session on APBP.
Deines has trained more than 750 teachers in 42 states and will bring with him a contingency of Kansas high school teachers who he trained in the APBP program and who have successfully used the materials in the classroom.
At Northern, Deines will train 20 Ohio high school teachers. Jill Christopher, ONU associate professor of accounting, is the University’s in-house liaison to KSU and the APBP Program and facilitator for the program at the Dicke College of Business Administration.
Christopher said, “We would like to repeat this program throughout an academic year on a larger scale, and ONU award college credit to students who successfully complete the APBP course in their high schools, taught by APBP-trained high school teachers.”
The APBP was created to advance high school accounting education and, in turn, improve the long-term viability of the accounting profession’s supply chain. The program is modeled after the College Board’s highly successful Advanced Placement (AP) program.
Once specific goals are achieved, the American Accounting Association’s Pathways Commission plans to submit a proposal to the College Board for the Board to adopt accounting as part of its AP curriculum.
