Ohio Northern University presents renowned pianist Kathryn Woodard
The Ohio Northern University Department of Music presents pianist Kathryn Woodard in recital on Sunday, April 6, at 4 p.m. in Presser Hall’s Snyder Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Washington Post has reviewed Woodard’s playing as “nothing short of stunning.” Woodard curates and performs programs that explore cross-cultural exchange in music. Designated an American Cultural Specialist by the U.S. Department of State in 2001, her performances have taken her to China, Korea, Croatia, Germany, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and Thailand, with additional performances at Carnegie Hall, the Freer Gallery at the Smithsonian Institution, the Detroit Institute of Art and the Dallas Museum of Art.
Woodard has worked with such noted composers as Karlheinz Stockhausen and Frederic Rzewski as an advocate for new music. Her specialty is the Turkish music of Adnan Saygun; additionally, she founded the Sonic Crossroads initiative with the aim of shedding light on global piano music.
