Buy Local First Hardin County Summer Contest
The Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance will be hosting a Buy Local First Hardin County Summer Contest, June 14 to August 14. We are currently seeking businesses to partner with on this initiative to encourage people to shop local this summer. Any Hardin County business may participate. Businesses would need to display the Buy Local First Hardin County sign and donate a gift certificate from your business. Gift certificate must be a minimum of $20. Not only will this event be promoted on our website and Facebook, we are also working with the Kenton Times and WKTN to Promote Buy Local First Hardin County. Kenton Wal-Mart Store is Hiring
The Kenton Wal-Mart Store #5355 will be going through a remodel in August 2014 and will be looking for applicants to fill Temporary “Set-Up/Remodel” third shift positions. Your availability will need to be 10pm to 7am. Minimum hourly wage would be $8.15 an hour, plus the third shift differential of $1 an hour. Temporary positions can be for one week up to six months. There is a possibility at the end of the Temporary assignment to be hired as a part associate depending on your job performance, your attendance, and business needs at the time. Walking for the Health of It
Kenton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is proud to be starting a new walking program. Join us for a good time and a cardio workout with your friends and family. Refreshments will be available and we will be giving away a door prize. The second Saturday of every month starting May 10 at 10am. Located at Boy Scout Lake Pavilion, St. Rt. 309.

Hardin Memorial Hospital Farmers Market
Hardin Memorial Hospital will host a Farmers Market on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Saturday from 10am to 1pm, opening day will be May 3. Wednesday from 11:30am to 3:30pm will start on June 11. Markets will run through October. Located in the northwest parking lot of Hardin Memorial, 921 E. Franklin St., Kenton. For more information contact public relations at 419-675-8137.

Local Businesses and Students Needed
LOOKING FOR EMPLOYERS/STUDENTS to participate in the TANF Summer Youth Employment Program. This grant program pays Hardin County students 14-24 to gain work experience in local businesses. Eligibility is determined by Job & Family Services (JFS). Payroll and worker’s compensation are handled through Mercer County ESC. High School students will work June through August, 20-25 hours per week, at a schedule set by the participating business. Post graduate students can work through October 3. A business’s involvement is to mentor students in general and specific work skills to increase the caliber of our upcoming workforce. Coordination is provided through Community Employment Services. Kenton Pool Passes on Sale Now
Pool Hours are 12 to 8pm daily. Preview days will be held on May 24 & 25 from 1 to 5pm. Preview days are free. Opening day will be May 26. Daily admission: 2 & under free and $4 for general admission. Family passes are $100 for two adults and three kids, additional children add $10. A single pass is $50. Senior single passes are $40 and senior couple passes are $70. “Vacation” passes are $20 for 4 people for seven days. Monthly family passes are $40; this includes 2 adults and 3 children, additional children add $10. Pool passes may be purchased at the Kenton City Building Monday thru Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Walmart’s Annual Fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network
Walmart will be holding their annual fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network from May 1-June 11. All proceeds will go to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. Donations can be made at the registers. Watch for other fun activities Walmart is planning for this worthwhile cause. For more information call Todd Walter at 419-675-1156.

Run for Recovery 5K Run/Walk & Kids Dash
The Run for Recovery 5K Run/Walk & Kids Dash is presented by the Hardin Community School, Ohio's first recovery school. Proceeds from the race will sponsor projects and activities for students. Start: Hardin Community School/Lifeworks Center, 400 Decatur Street, Kenton on Saturday, May 24. Course: The 3.1 mile course begins and ends at Hardin Community School and is routed through the city of Kenton. Memorial Day Car Show & Petroliana
Memorial Day Car Show & Petroliana in Downtown Mt. Victory on May 26. Registration begins at 10am, no fee to show your car or admittance, food available, Antique & Classic Cars, Muscle Cars, Street Machines, Rods, Trucks & Motorcycles plus petroliana & auto collectibles. On May 26, the Memorial Day Parade line-up will begin at 9am and the parade will start at 10am in Kenton.

Hardin County Players Children’s Summer Workshop
All participants, ages 6-14, will be presenting a kid’s version of the well-known Broadway show, Annie! This will include actors, curtains, lights, sound, make-up, costumes, set & props and crew members. The workshop dates are June 16-20 and June 23-26 starting at a NEW time 5-8pm. Registrations are due no later than May 30. The cost of the workshop is $20 and that covers snacks and a t-shirt. A parent/camper informational session will be held at Kenton Middle School on Sunday, June 15 at 7pm. An optional screening of Annie will be held afterwards for anyone wishing to view the show. There will be a mandatory practice on Saturday, June 21 from 10am to 4pm (lunch will be provided). The show dates are Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28 at 7:30pm. Tickets at the door are $7 while senior citizen tickets are $5.  Student and adult volunteers are needed for the workshop! Forest Farmers Market
Forest Farmers Market will kick off its season on Saturday, May 31. It will run from May 31 – September, every Saturday from 10am-1pm at the Forest-Jackson Public Library Parking Lot

Family Fun Day & Car Show
Cruise In for a Cure: Ending Neurofibromatosis (NF). Sunday, June 1 starting at noon at Simon Kenton School, 705 North Ida St., Kenton. Come rain or shine. Fun activities for the whole family, including classic car show, kids train ride, face painting, music, bounce house, fire truck, clowns, flea market/craft bazaar, auction, Life Flight helicopter landing and more. Proceeds help fund NF research by The Childrens Tumor Foundation through their Racing 4 Research 2015 program on behalf of NF Hero Bryce Wells-Gossard.

Active Parenting Now at Hardin Northern Community Center
 OSU Extension, Hardin Northern Library, Hardin Northern Community Center, and the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund are offering parents of school aged children an opportunity to intentionally explore how to be the greatest influence on their kids.  They will be offering a series of six hourly sessions of Active Parenting Now for all adults who are caring for children during the Hardin Northern Library’s Summer Reading weekly programs.  The parenting sessions will be held at the Hardin Northern Community Center.  The dates are June 2, June 10, June 19, June 26, July 1 and July 8th.  Register by phoning the Extension office at 419-674-2297, e-mailing [email protected] or go on-line to register at go.osu.edu/hardinnorthernregistersforapn3.    

Community Women’s Gathering “At His Feet” led by Sue Thurston
Come step away from the busyness and “motion sickness” of your life, be still & choose the good part as Mary did “at His feet.” Sue Thurston (author, speaker, and evangelist) returns to Hardin County to lead us in praise and worship on Friday, June 6 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and Sunday, June 7 from 8am to 12 noon at St. John’s Church in Kenton, 211 E. American Red Cross Golf Scramble
The Hardin County Red Cross is hosting its 5th annual Golf Scramble Saturday, June 7, which will be held at Veterans Memorial Park Golf Course just east of Kenton on State Route 309. There will be a shot gun start at 8:30am with registration at 7:30am until 8:15am. Register four member teams by picking up the registration form at the golf course, or by contacting Audrey Hankins at the Hardin County Red Cross Office at (419) 674-2295. The fee per person is $60 for nonmembers of the Veterans Memorial Golf Course, $40 for members without cart privileges and $30 for members with cart privileges. The fee includes lunch for the registered players. Checks are made payable to the Hardin County Red Cross. The first place team will win $250, second place $200, and the third place is $100. Skill contests will include a $10,000 Hole-in-One, Closest to the Pin on Two of the Par 3, Longest Drive in Fairway, and Longest Putt on the 18th Green. Mulligans will be $20 per team and Skins pay 75% back. The event is sponsored by various businesses throughout Hardin County. Prizes and fun are in store and a great way to kick-off summer with friends or co-workers!

Music on Main Cruise-in
Enjoy dinner at local restaurants or pre-sale Rotary Chicken BBQ fundraiser at Hays Insurance, visit local businesses and listen and dance to music at the Depot parking lot on Friday, June 13 from 6 to 8pm in Downtown Ada. Fun cars on display and hula hoops! Music provided by WONB 94.9 FM-from the  50's and 60's. Bring your lawn chairs and spend time with your friends and neighbors. Weather permitting.
