Musicians very successful at New Philadelphia

News flash from the Ada Music Boosters Facebook:

Another sweep and another five first place trophies for our already packed trophy case!

Five Ada groups participated in this past weekend's OIPA event in New Philadelphia, including flag line, rifle line, gold team winter guard, purple team winter guard and winds.

Congrats to all Ada performers and directors Mr. Lischak and Amy Webb. Perhaps the highlight of the day was the humorous award ceremony exit of one lovable t-rex (Jacob Bassitt) and monkey sidekick (Jacob Morgan).

Marie Maxwell plays balloon volleyball on Thursday with other residents of Vancrest in Ada. No one won, no one lost, but there were lots of smiles among the dozen or so residents who sat in a circle and batted the balloon around, even getting this photographer into the game. Amherst (Mass.) defeated ONU's nemesis Christopher Newport (Va.), 66-51.

Tufts (Mass.) defeated St. Thomas (Fla.) 60-57.

Amherst defeated Tufts, 52-29, for the Championship. This was the lowest scoring championship basketball game in NCAA Division III history.

Also, attendance for the final game was the lowest ever with the two Massachusetts teams in the final being a long way from Grand Rapids

LIMA -- The Ohio Northern women's tennis team ran its winning streak to five matches with a 9-0 victory over Wittenberg Sunday night indoors at the Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 13-2 overall, while the Tigers fall to 5-9.

Northern swept the doubles matches to take a quick 3-0 lead.

Junior Lynn Kelly (Mason) and sophomore Ashley Ochsenhirt (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) won 8-1 at No. 1 and seniors Christina Corbean(Dayton/Oakwood) and Brittany Toney(Greenwood, Ind.) won 8-2 at No. 2.
