Ada to Zac: "Thanks for everything!"

Photos and story by Monty Siekerman
A loud and joyous crowd gave hometown favorite Zac Dysert a well-deserved welcome Saturday night at the Ada High School gym when his #12 jersey was retired.

The occasion took place between the junior varsity and varsity basketball games.

Dyserts' high school football coach, Mike Fell, introduced Dysert to a large crowd which gave the local star a standing ovation.

Fell related how it was a pleasure to coach Dysert, how Dysert was a standout athlete in many sports, and through it all remained a fine Christian man.

Fell said Dysert wasn't after records, although he compiled many, but he was interested in how you played the game.

Dysert was appreciative of the local support through high school, college, and pro ball.

He gave credit to his family for his good bringing up, values, and encouragement.

His sisters, Heather and Brooke, joined Zach and Coach Fell at center court displaying a Miami Dolphins banner, the team Zach joined on Jan. 19.

T-shirts with #12 and Dysert on the back were hot sellers. You'd think most of Ada had the last name of Dysert. The t-shirts were designed and produced by Tracie Amburgey and Fred Reichert.

Shortly after the ceremony, the case with the #12 jersey was installed on a hallway wall near the entrance to the gym.

How long has #12 been worn by Ada Bulldogs? Since the first game played in Ada. Who will wear #12 again? No one, it's permanently retired.
