Unexpected Ada visitors
By Monty Siekerman
Bob and Janet Crawford had unexpected visitors at their front door on East North Avenue this week: two cecropia.
The beautiful moths hatched from a cocoon not far away. Janet shared the photos of her "find" with the Ada Icon.

A year and a half ago, large cecropia caterpillars were found on the buckhorn plants in front of Liberty National Bank. See the photos (below) of the caterpillars that Monty Siekerman photographed in August of 2015.
Cecropia Moth (Hyalophora cecropia) is North America's largest moth with a wingspan of 5-6 inches.
Look for the giant silk moths as you travel throughout Ada this time of year. They are a wonder to see, much prettier than the caterpillar stage, for sure.
