E. Douglas Reed, age 65, was called home on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 8:08 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.

          Doug was born on November 3, 1952 in to the late Elvin D. and Betty (Rhodent) Reed.   On January 7, 1978 Doug married Patricia A. Lusk, they were married for 40 years and she survives in Waynesfield.  He was previously married to Lorraine Jenkins. 

Doug was a chemical operator for BP of Lima.  He was a member of the Waynesfield Baptist Church.  Doug was a jack of all trades and master of none, but often times better than a master of one.  He was known as “Poppy” to anyone who needed one. 

ONU hosted the district Science Day on Saturday morning with more than 85 displays shown by students from 10 area counties, including a number from Ada, which is only a stones throw away from where the competition was held in Mathile and Meyer science halls. Students in grades 5-12 were eligible to enter projects. About 40 of the students will advance to state which will be held May 12 at OSU. Two addition photos show •  Kierra Leimgruber, Ada 7th grade, “Can You Canoe?” and  • Madison Archer, Ada 7th grade, “Toy Car Garage.”

Ada Dairy Bar Bee at 4209 SR 235 will open March 22.

The dairy bar will be open from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily. Gary McClain, proprietor, said there will be several new items on the menu this year.

112th Ada High School Interclass competition

Interclass, a synonym for academic excellence, was won by the Junior Class at Ada High School on Friday night at the school auditorium. 

Individual winners were Erryk Katayama, a senior, for essay; Lyric Jones, a senior, for poetry; Austin Amburgey, a junior, for short story; and Jacob Colwell, a junior, for dramatic reading. 

He also served as a fireman and police office

Willis E. “Gene” Fry, 76, died on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 8:23 a.m. at Memorial Gables in Marysville.

He was born on Sept. 19, 1941, in Lima, Ohio to the late Robert L. and Jane E. (Newland) Fry.  On Sept. 19, 1960, Gene married Charolette A. Austin and she survives in McGuffey.

Gene retired from General Dynamics where he worked as a welder.  He was a member of the McGuffey Freewill Baptist Church. Gene was the former mayor of McGuffey and formerly served as a fireman and police officer for McGuffey. He dedicated his life to his family and was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.  He was loved by all who knew him.
