Six petals with a trumpet-shaped central corona and a primarly color of yellow. It must be a group of daffodils in the Ada railroad park. After all, it's that time of year. We will see what blooms next in the park soon, but in the meantime, it's daffodil season.

ONU student is "People's Choice" winner

Ohio Northern University student Emily Fergus, of Bellefontaine was one of six seniors statewide to earn an Association of Independent Colleges in Ohio (AICUO) Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts. Additionally, Fergus won the People’s Choice Award.

Fergus, a graphic design major, graduated from Bellefontaine High School.

Her award-winning submission incorporated three projects that are both creative and practical. The first project, “Here, Here and Here,” is an interactive experience that takes visitors through areas in Ada. The second effort, “Urban Forest Project,” adapts a national initiative to Ada, and the third project involves reusable bags.

The Ada Public Library Board Of Trustees will hold a meeting of the Finance Committee on Wednesday, April 24, at 1:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room of the library.  

Robert W. “Bob” Joyce, 84, died on Sunday, April 21, 2019, at 12:20 p.m. at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

He was born on Aug. 27, 1934, in St. Marys, Ohio, to the late Harry and Mary Ruth (Harding) Joyce. On Feb. 27, 1976 Bob married Ora E. Allen Harpster and she preceded him in death on Aug. 20, 2014. 

Bob retired as a Millwright, he formerly worked at a paper mill in St. Marys, Clark Equipment, Lima and UAP in Forest.  He also was a greeter at Walmart in Kenton.

The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving program recorded its third successive runner-up finish at the 2018-19 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at the University of Akron in February, headlining the Polar Bears' first season under head coach Austin Veltman.

"This year, our swimmers and divers competed hard all season long," Veltman noted. "The athletes definitely earned the success they had this season, and I am incredibly proud of their efforts."

This year, the Polar Bears recorded a 4-3 overall record for the program's 12th consecutive winning season. In addition, Northern posted a 3-1 conference mark to end second in the OAC Regular Season title race.
