LIMA - Ada senior Chase Sumner took second in the 145 lbs. bracket to pace the Bulldog matmen at the Div. III Lima sectionals hosted by LCC Friday and Saturday.
Sumner clinched his fourth straight district tournament berth with his showing. After a bye, Sumner pinned Kyle Martin of Cory-Rawson in the quarterfinals Friday at 1:50.
On Saturday, he pinned Brent Siefker of Ottawa-Glandorf at 1:12 in the semifinals.
But in the finals, LCC's Joey Caprella registered a 12-3 decision over Sumner to win the bracket title. Sumner now advances to the district competition at Troy next weekend.
Lydia E. Brown, age 89, died on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 2:45 a.m. at the Lima Manor, Lima, Ohio.
She was born on April 27, 1928 in Warrenville, South Carolina to the late McDuffy and Josephiene (Lowe) Freeman. On May 14, 1945 Lydia married Robert L. Brown and he preceded her in death on May 12, 1996.
Lydia was a homemaker. She was a member of the Ada VFW Post #9381 Auxiliary.
Applications are still available for the Citizens Sheriff’s Academy slated for March 8 until April 26. The group will meet weekly on successive Thursdays from 6-8:30 p.m.
The Academy is designed to provide a working knowledge of the Hardin County sheriff’s office. It will explain and demonstrate the various aspects of the sheriff’s responsibilities using classroom discussion and hands-on participation. Participants will observe and experience the talents, skills, diversity, and quality of the office.
The Ada Historical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the Ada Public Library. All are welcome to attend the meeting of the newly-formed organization. A spring membership dinner will be discussed as well as other items about future projects and organizational matters.
Fred Steiner, owner of the Ada Icon and Bluffton Icon, will be present to tell about his recently-published book, “The Bluffton We Never Knew,” which includes 170 photographs taken of Bluffton prior to 1911. He will have several copies on hand for purchase that evening.
