Letter: Common Pleas Juvenile Court candidate mailer

Letter to the Icon editor:

I recently attended a gathering where Christina Cross - Hardin County Republican candidate for Common Pleas Juvenile Court - spoke passionately about how her experience as an educator would, if elected, help her better assist children and their families. She added that the schools should play an integral part in this process, and that she would reach out to the schools regarding the young individuals in need. Christina asserted that she would be fair but firm, and follow the law. Fast forward one week. We received a piece of mail from Christina’s campaign that read, in part: “Christina Cross Tough On Crime.” It went on to say, “It’s time someone holds criminals accountable for their actions. That’s where Christina Cross comes in.” Wait. I thought that Christina was running for JUDGE in a JUVENILE COURT, not for Hardin County Prosecutor? So much for assisting children and their families when they need it most. From the tenor of Christina’s mailing, she has already made her decisions, as clearly stated above. Mind you, she’s not only misleading us by outright saying she’s “tough on crime,” but these “criminals” are CHILDREN.
