2025 Wes Davis Memorial Scholarships awarded

MAY 19 MEDIA RELEASE__The Hardin County Sports Hall of Fame announces the 2025 Wes Davis Memorial Scholarship recipients.  Allison Woodruff of Riverdale High School and Maddox Underwood of Upper Scioto Valley High School will each receive a one-time $500.00 scholarship towards their academic endeavors at the HCSH of Fame banquet on Saturday, June 14 at St. John's Church in Kenton.

Riverdale High School Class of 2025 - Allison Woodruff
Allison, daughter of Michael and Jessica Woodruff, is a 2025 Riverdale High School graduate. While attending RHS, she compiled 11 Varsity Rs: 4 in cross country, 4 in track, and 3 in soccer. In cross country,

Allison qualified for the OHSAA Meet four straight years. In 2023, she finished 23rd in the state, earning All-Ohio honors. In her high school career she was crowned as 4-time Champion in both the BVC and Hardin County Cross Country meets, and she holds the cross country school record at 18:40. In track, she was a 4-event State Qualifier her junior year and earned All-Ohio honors by finishing 7th in the 1600m run. As a sophomore, she qualified for Regionals in 4 events. She was an 8-time Hardin County
Meet Champion (800, 1600, 3200, 4x400, 4x800), 2024 BVC Runner of the Year, and holds 3 school records: 1600(5:03), 3200(11:26), and 4x800(9:41). (Her senior track season was not yet complete at time of printing.)

In Soccer, Allison earned 2nd 2nd Team NCOSA, Honorable Mention All-District NWOSSCA, and 2-time Honorable Mention NCOSA, and was a part of the Falcons’ 2-time District Championship and Regional qualifying teams.

Academically, Allison was a 4-time Academic All-Ohioan, a Riverdale Scholar-Athlete Award winner, a member of the National Honor Society, Riverdale Student of the Month, and Elks Student of the Month and Year in Hancock County. She graduated with an Honors Diploma and a 4.512 GPA, and was on the All-A Honor Roll all 4 years of high school. In addition, she earned an Associate’s Degree of Science from Marion Technical College and made the MTC Dean’s List for 3 years. She will be attending Ohio Northern
University where she will continue her track and cross country career.

Upper Scioto Valley High School Class of 2025 - Maddox Underwood
Maddox, son of Rob and Michelle Underwood, is a 2025 graduate of Upper Scioto Valley High School and the oldest of four siblings. Maddox was a four-year varsity letterman in football, basketball, and baseball, and a two-year letterman in track and field.

On the football field, he earned Northwest Central Conference 2nd Team honors as a freshman and was 1st Team NWCC the next three years. As a senior, he was named NWCC Offensive Player of the Year and Academic All-Ohio, while also receiving All-State Honorable Mention in Division VII.

On the basketball court, Maddox was NWCC Honorable Mention as a freshman and received 1st Team NWCC as a sophomore, junior, and senior. He was selected as the NWCC Player of the Year as a senior and garnered 1 st Team District 8 recognition.

In baseball, he earned 1st Team NWCC his freshman through junior year and All-District 1st Team honors and Prep's 2nd Team All-State as a junior.

In track, he tied the school high jump record and won the NWCC Conference meet in high jump and placed 2nd in long jump. (Senior baseball and track awards have not been finalized yet).

Maddox was recognized by the Lima News Dream Team multiple times for football and basketball and was named WLIO Scholar Athlete of the Week.

In addition to his athletic success, Maddox finished at the top of his class with a 4.0 GPA and was involved in various leadership activities. He earned the State FFA Degree, and during his senior year, he served as the Hardin County Fair King and exhibited the Grand Champion Market Steer. He was a Business Professionals of America State Qualifier numerous times and a National Qualifier his senior year.

He served as Class President and Vice President and was a member of the Student Council. Maddox was inducted into both the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society. His volunteer efforts included participation in Relay for Life, Holiday Food Packaging, Big Brothers Big
Sisters, Youth Basketball, and other community outreach programs. He works on the family grain and livestock farm and for Top Choice Asphalt and Concrete. Maddox will be attending Ohio Northern University where he will play football for the Polar Bears.
