Recap of Ada Council for May 6

The Village of Ada Council held a regular meeting and a safety services meeting on the evening of May beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Icon attended via Zoom, which an option available via a link provided at https://www.adaoh.gov/board-meetings/
RESOLUTIONS
Two resolutions were approved. The first accepted the bid of Bluffton Paving, Inc. as the lowest and best bid for the 2025 Village of Ada street and alley maintenance with milling and asphalt overlaying. The second accepted a proposal from Pac Engineering, LLC for the Village wastewater treatment plant SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) improvements project.
COMMITTEES
Safety Services: A motion by committee chair Jeff Oestreich purchase the emergency notification sirens was approved.
Personnel: Committee chair Bob Simmons announced the hiring of Melissa Eddings Mancuso as seasonal part-time Groundskeeper.
Buildings and Grounds: Committee chair Jason Campbell reported that Amburgey Construction will tear down the derelict village storage building near Pebble Ct. The project includes removing a concrete pad and resurfacing with dirt. The cost will be $8,400; the deadline is July 31.
Police Department: Chief Alec Cooper reported that since the last Council meeting Ada Police Department has answered 148 calls for service, made 16 incident reports and responded to 0 vehicle incidents. A female was arrested for domestic violence, the department assisted U.S. Marshalls with an arrest and officers arrested a male with an outstanding warrant.
Village Administrator: Jamie Hall reported that the Hardin County Community Foundation has awarded some $15K+ from the Freed Fund for downtown flowers and other beautification. Another $7,000 has been awarded for the betterment of trees.
Hardin County has received three bids for Ada’s CDBG sidewalk project which will repair almost 1,200 linear feet of sidewalk in the northwest quadrant.
The Buckeye Ave. traffic flow project is expected to begin the week of May 12. The work will be done with two one-day closures, one for East Buckeye and one for West Buckeye. Crews will remove pavement markings with pressure washing and grinding, then make new markings with thermoplastic. New signage will take about four days at roughly the same time.
West Montford street improvements are expected to begin next Thursday. This work includes curb and gutter replacement, and road paving from West High Street to the alley between N Gilbert and Main Street. Some 700’ of sidewalk replacement, curb ramp repair and storm catch basin repai will be done.
A new Ford Maverick pickup truck has been received for use by the Water Department and Zoning and Code Officials.
Water meter replacement is 95% complete. Remaining work includes some larger meters at ONU that do not have bypass features, something that is required for new builds.
SAFETY SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING
Following regular meeting adjournment at about 7:07, council held a safety services meeting to discuss tall grass and weeds code enforcement. Both notifications and payment options were discussed with the goal of improving response times for both.
