The No. 8-ranked Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team had outstanding performances at the SPIRE Midwest Open in Geneva and the Findlay Open in Findlay on Saturday.

The Polar Bears had athletes at the Findlay Open, hosted by NCAA Division II foe Findlay, and the SPIRE Midwest Open, a meet in Geneva consisting primarily of NCAA Division II and III schools.

Senior All-American Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./De LaSalle) won the the 800-meter run at the SPIRE Midwest Open.

Molinaro finished first out of 83 runners in the event in 4:14.16.

Junior Ian McVey (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) finished seventh in the 3,000-meter run in 8:31.32.

The Ohio Northern men's basketball team turned in a stellar defensive performance in an 82-60 Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Capital on Saturday at the ONU Sports Center.

Ryan Bruns, a junior, was honored in a ceremony before the game for breaking ONU's all-time career blocked shots record and for reaching the 1,000-point plateau for his career. ONU All-American Stan Mories, who blocked 171 shots from 1979-82, presented Bruns with plaque for breaking his record that had stood for 36 years.

The Choreographers' Showcase at the Freed Center features the ONU Dance Company performing a broad range of dance styles choreographed by guests, faculty and university students. Performances will be Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 3 and 4.

Ada 4th grade students attended the ONU men's basketball game Saturday as part of the Books with Benz reading incentive. The students were honored at halftime, then received shirts signed by the team after the game.  Earlier this year, Coach Rich Bensman and several players visited the 4th graders at the elementary and spoke to them about the importance of reading. In the game, Ada easily defeated Capital.

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team wrapped up its regular season with a tri-meet at NCAA Division II foe Hillsdale (Mich.) with No. 20-ranked Case Western Reserve on Saturday afternoon at McAvoy Natatorium.

The Polar Bears (5-4-1 overall) fell to Hillsdale 162-125 and to Case 215-84.

Case (8-2) also defeated Hillsdale (7-2) 184-107.

Sophomore Lauren Halle (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) and freshman Claire Kaiding(Waterford, Mich./Brandon) each had a second and a third place finish to lead ONU.

WHEATON, Ill. — The Ohio Northern wrestling team placed four wrestlers at the Wheaton (Ill.) Pete Willson Invitational on Friday-Saturday at King Arena.

The Polar Bears finished 10th of 35 teams.

Junior Clayton Davidson (Kirtland) led the Polar Bears with a third place finish at 174 pounds. Davidson was seeded fourth in his weight class and posted a 5-1 record on the weekend.

Fifth-seeded sophomore Nate Barcaskey (Moon Area) placed sixth at Heavyweight. Barcaskey posted a 3-0 record on Friday to reach the semifinals, but medical forfeited his three matches on Saturday to finish sixth.
