The Village would like to congratulate the 2017 graduates of Ohio Northern University! We have enjoyed having you be a part of our community over the past few years, and welcome your return for years to come!
Ducks like parks, too. Weekend rains brought large puddles of water. This male mallard duck was taking a leisurely swim at War Memorial Park on Saturday afternoon. (Jerry Maag photo)
Summer is right around the corner and who isn’t ready for the sun and heat?
Be prepared for those hot days. You can beat the Saturday, May 27, opening day rush and buy your season pass for the Ada pool now.
Passes for 2017 are $45 per person through June 11. After June 11, passes cost $55 per person.
There is a season-long discount of $10 per person for any resident/taxpayer who works or lives within the Ada village limits and is required to file and pay village income tax (subject to verification).
The discount is the village way of saying thanks to taxpayers, because .15% of the village’s income tax is designated to support the pool.
Village Voice: Council responds to recent dog issues
All across the nation, villages and cities are dealing with the issue of domestic dogs escaping the control of their owners. Some areas, including Ada, have seen incidents of dogs attacking other dogs and people when out of the control of owners.
After much discussion and feedback from the public, advocacy groups and the Hardin County Dog Warden in 2016, Council revised Ada’s local ordinance to address some concerns.
One of the cool things about being in the third grade at Ada Elementary School is the annual Arbor Day Celebration.
Each spring, the volunteers on the Ada Tree Commission visit the third graders to talk about trees.
The commissioners share stories about trees, wildlife and how to plant the bare root tree each student receives from the Tree Commission. Tree Commissioners also talk to the students about it means to be a Tree City USA, as Ada has been named for 36 years, and what it means for Ohio Northern University to be a Tree Campus USA, as ONU has been named for seven years.
Every year several varieties of trees and shrubs out do themselves when they bloom in the spring. Redbud trees are among the winners this year, filling the village with their light purple blooms wherever they are planted. We chose to photograph the Mary Bowden house at Main Street and Lima Avenue because redbuds have grown there for many years and have caught the eyes of passers-by for a very long time. Spring wouldn't be spring in Ada if for some reason they didn't bloom at this house on South Main.
