Ada village officials provided the Icon with the village approach to snow emergencies. Here is information of interest to residents from The Village Voice:
Snow Emergencies
Village crews work around the clock through major snowfalls to keep the Village streets as safe and passable as possible. Please keep the following tips in mind:
• Crews do not wait for a snow emergency to be declared to begin clearing roads.
If you are able to park your vehicles off the street, please do so. Once the public lots at the Depot and the corner of West Buckeye Avenue and North Gilbert Street are plowed, please consider using those lots.
This Thanksgiving, we are saying thank you to all those who volunteer and work hard to improve our community. Without the help of many, Ada would not be what it is.
Residents are served throughout the year by the volunteer work of the Ada Tree Commissioners, Planning Commissioners and Board of Zoning Appeals members. These individuals serve on the referenced commissions and boards on their own time, and continually work to improve the appearance and health of the community.
As temperatures continue to fall and frosts hit our ground, so will the leaves. If you are staying ahead of the game by continuing to rake to the tree lawn area, our crews greatly appreciate it! As in the past, the street crew will temporarily suspend pick up next week, as it is a short week due the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Leaf pick up will resume for the final, planned week on Nov. 28 – Dec. 1.
Once crews have finished with leaf pick up for the season, please bag any leaves and call the Village office to schedule a pick up.
Parent-teacher conferences for all grades are next Monday, Nov. 21, from 4:00-8:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. If you need to schedule a conference please call the office or contact your student's teacher.
The Ada Academic Boosters are sponsoring a November box top drive now through Friday, Nov. 18.
Elementary students in grade K-5 have the opportunity to win a Toys R Us gift card. The top three students turning in box tops will win a $100, $50 or $25 gift card.
Middle school (6th-8th) and high school (9th-12th) have the possibility of winning Visa gift cards.
For every 10 box tops, the student will have their name entered into a drawing.
The boosters will give away $150, $100, and $50 gift cards. There will be three winners for middle school and high school each. A total of six gift cards will be awarded.
Voting on the November ballot is underway in Ohio, and local citizens have a number of initiatives to consider. For more information on voting, issues and candidates, please visit the Hardin County Board of Elections website at http://co.hardin.oh.us/boe/. While there is not a municipal issue on the ballot, the Village of Ada appreciates the continued support of voters.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8! If you have any questions regarding voting, please contact the Hardin County Board of Elections at 419-674-2211.
