Washington Monthly has ranked Ohio Northern University 38th in the nation in its 2014 baccalaureate college rankings released this week. ONU has been ranked in the top 50 since 2010.
Washington Monthly rates schools based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and Ph.D.s), and service (encouraging students to give something back to their country).
Ohio Northern University’s Center for Democratic Governance and Rule of Law will hold a panel discussion on “Human Rights In the Time of Ebola: Public Health vs. Individual Freedom” in the Pettit College of Law’s Celebrezze Moot Courtroom on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m.
Ohio Northern University has earned the “Tuition Hero” designation by the Tuition Heroes website for the 2014-15 academic school year.
Schools tabbed as a “Tuition Hero” earn this honor if the institution has a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.5 percent or less, and if the school has a fixed rate tuition policy.
Ohio Northern has traditionally been committed to making it affordable for students to attend the University while providing a quality education and a CAGR of 2.5 percent. In 2014-15, ONU instituted The Ohio Northern Promise to continue meet the challenges associated with the rising costs of higher education.
Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present “Defying Gravity: The Music of Stephan Schwartz” on Friday, Aug. 29, at 7:30 p.m.
Veteran singers from Broadway will perform music composed by the legendary Schwartz, who has composed some of the most recognizable songs from movies and Broadway. In a career spanning more than four decades, Schwartz has written such hit musicals as “Godspell,” “Pippin” and “Wicked.”
Ohio Northern University's Observatory first event of the season is Friday, Aug. 29, titled is "Comet Rendezvous/Neptune Opposition." The program is from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.This event is free to the public but it is contingent on mostly clear skies.
"On this night, we celebrate encounters with two comets. For Comet 67P/ Churyumov-Gerasimenko, a spacecraft called "Rosetta" has just reached the comet and is finding the optimum site for a November landing," said Dr. Jason Pinkney, professor of physics and astronomy and ONU Observaory manager.
The Ohio Northern University Metzger Nature Center will celebrate its 25th anniversary with an open house and picnic on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 1 p.m.
ONU alumni and guests will have the opportunity to tour the grounds and participate in a number of family-friendly outdoor activities led by ONU students.
