Cars were polished to the max at the 12th annual car show held on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the County Line Church of the Brethren.
Car owners were glad to talk about their “beauties” and relate some history of their cars. There was music and a chicken BBQ, as well. The youngsters enjoyed a bounce house and the Church’s playground equipment.
Next car show: Ada VFW Cruz-n from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, July 21. Main Street will be cordoned off from 1-8 p.m. for sidewalk sales and the car show. The Ada Icon is one of the major sponsors.
“One, two pick up sticks.” There are no sticks to pick up any longer. The wrecking ball has done its job on Clark Hall. Only a few pieces of cement foundation need to be broken apart, dropped into a truck and hauled away, then the earth grassed.
The first section of Clark was built 69 years ago as Ohio Northern’s first residence hall. In more recent years, the two-story structure stood empty or housed a variety of office. Here is a story about Clark’s history, which we posted earlier, but will repeat for those who may have missed it the first time. Second-year head coach Jackie Price had the Polar Bear softball team competing a high level once again in 2018 as Northern grabbed the OAC Tournament title, advanced to the NCAA Tournament and recorded its 13th straight upper-division Ohio Athletic Conference finish this season.
Northern finished the 2018 season with an impressive 32-11 record, which are the most wins the program has seen in a single season since Price played for the Polar Bears in 2010.
It’s a free swim and pizza party for those who have signed up for the Ada Public Library summer reading program. The event will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11 at the village pool. The swim begins at 11 a.m. The pizza, donated by Padrone’s, will be available about noon.
There is no requirement about how many books have been read prior to the party. The annual pool party draws about 100 people, mostly children, but teens and adults are invied, as well. Signup is required
The Ada Dog Park Association will have occasional doggie play dates. The first one at the new Ada Dog Park will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 7. Of course, furry friends are welcome any other time, as well. The park is located at the end of East Lehr Avenue (turn east at the Church of Christ on Main Street).
The dog park has a shelter, water, and an area for small dogs and one for larger dogs to be off-leash to play, socialize, and exercise..

He comes from Tegucigalpa and is here to serve as family ministry director of the Ada First United Methodist Church.
Roberto Varela, a native of Honduras, recently began his duties at the local church after graduating with a B.A. degree from Ohio Christian University in Circleville where he majored in ministry and sports management. Sports? He loves soccer, a game he played from his young days in his native Honduras through college.
As family ministry director, he will work with all generations, from newborn to the elderly, to bring families together to serve God and the Church.
