MASON - Ada senior Zach Beaschler's chance for a state title came up just short as he lost in the semifinals of the Div. II Ohio state tournament Saturday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason.
By coming in fourth in the singles tournament, Beaschler authored the best finish ever by an Ada player at the state event.
He suffered his first loss of the spring 6-1, 6-0 to eventual state champion Andrew Pregel of Cincinnati Indian Hill in the semifinals Saturday.
Then later on Saturday Beaschler met Dayton Miami Valley senior Colton Morehart in the third-place match, and lost 6-2, 6-2 to finish fourth.
LACROSSE, Wis. — Senior national champion and 4-time All-American Matt Molinaro(Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) suffered an injury and finished 12th in the 1,500-meter run on the final day of the NCAA III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships on a hot Saturday afternoon at Roger Harring Stadium.
TIFFIN - Ada junior Noah Mattson qualified for the state meet by finishing third in the shot put at the Div. III track and field regional event at Tiffin Friday evening.
Mattson recorded a toss of 50-5 on his third attempt to finish third among the 16-man regional field in the shot put finals. That throw bested his top district toss by four inches.
Mattson's other three regional final throws covered 46-10.25, 48-8.75 and 48-9.5 in distance.
LACROSSE, Wis. — Senior national champion and 4-time All-American Matt Molinaro(Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) finished second in his heat and fifth overall in the prelims of the 800-meter run at the NCAA III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday afternoon at Roger Harring Stadium.
Molinaro finished in 1:50.99 to advance to the finals, which will be held on Saturday at 1:50 pm (2:50 pm EST).
LACROSSE, Wis. — Senior 11-time All-American and 7-time national champion Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) won her heat in the prelims of the 800-meter run on the second day of the 2018 NCAA III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday afternoon at Roger Harring Stadium.
She led from the start, winning her heat in 2:08.97, and advancing automatically to the finals on Saturday at 2 pm (3 pm EST). She is the two-time defending NCAA champion in the event.
