Members of the Ada High School class of 2021 graduated on Sunday, making them the 138th class to pass through the local school system.
Class officers are: Trent Ennis, president; Jacob Morgan, vice-president; Kesewa Akyeampong, secretary;, Megan Light, treasurer and class advisor, Melody Veltri.
One family. Three generations. Three valedictorians.
Sunday’s graduation was a special event for each Ada High school graduate. But for Jacob Thaxton, a member of the class of 2021, its significance was part three of a very interesting family celebration.
Jacob became the third-generation member of his immediate family named a class valedictorian.
The threesome with Jacob, includes his mother, Julie, a 1996 Allen East graduate, and his grandfather, Jeffrey Anderson a 1971 Ada High School graduate.
The Ada Lions Club honored this year’s scholarship recipients on May 26.
As the selected recipients were announced they shared their plans and thanked the club for their scholarship awards. The Ada Lions Club provided a meal to all scholarship recipients and their families.
Madison Wright, recipient of one of last year’s Lions’ scholarships also attended the meeting.
The Club awarded five scholarships this year for a total of $5,750. One special scholarship award was given in memory of 50-year Ada Lions member, Jerry Dearth, who served many years as treasurer of the organization and who died this year. Alexandra Bates received this scholarship award.
Leah Erin Casey, a 2017 Allen East High School graduate, will graduate from Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire, on June 13, earning a B.A. in English with Honors.
Ms. Casey graduates summa cum laude and is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.
She will attend The Queen’s College at the University of Oxford in Oxford, England, in the fall, pursuing an MPhil in English Studies (Medieval Period).
While at Dartmouth College, Casey earned seven citations for meritorious academic achievements and academic. She is also recipient of several scholarships, including a semi-finalist for a Fulbright Scholarship, finalist in District 10 for a Rhodes Scholarship.

• Plans to attend The Ohio State University to double major in Computer Science and Neuroscience
FROM ONU FACEBOOK – “Gov. Mike DeWine's regular coronavirus briefings feature kitschy touches such as a recipe from First Lady Fran DeWine, a birthday shout-out to a staffer, or a special necktie.
It turns out that Ohio's colleges, universities and sports teams took notice.
DeWine received ties from at least 54 colleges and universities, eight athletic teams and four other organizations, according to his 2020 financial disclosure statement recently filed with the Ohio Ethics Commission.
