Here's what's happening in Ada on Aug. 25

The  schedule of events has been set for the third Made in Ada Football Festival on Saturday, Aug. 25.

The festival both celebrates Ada’s connection to the sport, as all footballs used in the National Football League are made in Ada’s Wilson football factory, and helps kick off the 2018 football season. The festival is sponsored by the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Wilson.

The day begins with an ONU intra-squad football practice at 9 a.m. and concludes with the now-famous football drop at 10 p.m.

But, mainline rail traffic through Ada continues

The railroad siding at the grain elevator is being repaired this week.

The ties will be replaced and, good news for motorists, the road will be made smooth once again. However, the Gilbert Street crossing will be closed most of this week due to the improvement, which is being paid for by the elevator.

The main line through town remains open for rail traffic.

The Jerry Lewis franchise of McDonald’s plans a renovation and modernization of locations in Ada, Van Wert, Shawnee and West Street in Lima in 2019. Modernizations at the restaurants include new furniture, digital self-order kiosks, digital menu boards, and an expansion of McCafe’s counters and display cases.

Similar work was accomplished this year at McDonald’s in Bluffton and in Lima at Elida Road and Market Street locations.

The school bell rang for the first time on Monday morning, signaling the start of the 2018-19 academic year. Ada Police and Sheriff’s Department vehicles were apparent in the front of the school when students, teachers, and staff arrived.

In the next photos, students flood into Ada Schools on Monday morning, some running to get inside to learn (or to see their friends).

Here's proof; check out the F&M Picnic parade photos

What do a chicken, giant tractor, a mayor, a fire truck, a goat, and candy have in common?

They could all be found at Saturday’s Farmers and Merchants parade. Everybody loves a parade, so says the saying, but kids especially like the annual F&M parade in Ada because of the ton of candy thrown by participants. It’s better than Halloween, and kids don’t have to go door to door in the cold. Children carry home plastic sacks filled with goodies.

The Village of Ada offices report that Gilbert Street, from Buckeye to Lincoln, will be closed from Tuesday until Friday this week for railroad crossing repair. The closure was requested by United Railroad Service, Inc.
