Part 2 of the Icon’s recycling series

By Liz Gordon-Hancock
No one would disagree with the statement that recycling is important. However, our best intentions do not always result in more being recycled.

In fact, if a non-recyclable item gets put in the recycling container, it could result in the whole batch being put into landfill.

Here is a list of further tips and insights from Republic Services on how to avoid that from happening and become recycling savvy.

And, while we are at it, here’s what you can and can’t recycle

Ever wondered where your refuse and recycling goes?

Republic Services is Ada’s refuse and recycling provider. It is a large-scale, nationwide company, with a local team based in Lima. Republic Services collects and recycles over five million tons of material annually. It also serves Bluffton, Lima, Ottawa and Carey, among other area villages. The village of Ada has contracted its services until this November, when the contact is up for renewal.

When your refuse is collected from your curb, it goes to a landfill in Carey.

It covers 3.5 miles - that's a lot of paint

Shortly after it was opened, the walking/jogging/running path at ONU was tagged the Green Monster.

It’s route around campus, mostly on the outskirts, covers 3.5 miles and is mostly painted green.

The “Monster” has been around enough to be renewed. This week the employees of Elite Painting and Sealcoating of Lima are sealing and repainting the popular path which is used by students, faculty, staff as well as the community.

Here, Doug Gallaspie of Elite works on the improvement on Thursday afternoon near Klingler Road.
